Description
Porsche's 959 was a technical and mechanical marvel when it was unveiled in 1983. Though based on a 911, it was designed for Porsche to compete in Group B rallying. At the time, it was the world's fastest, and most technologically advanced road car, featuring a four-wheel drive system that was capable of sending 80% of the power to the rear wheels, something unheard of at the time. To this day it remains one of the Stuttgart marque's most desirable models.
The car you see here is a hand-built evocation of this legendary car, crafted over years of obsessive work, and sitting on an original 911 monocoque. With a 1966 911 forming the foundation, what followed was a ground up, bare metal build, with a Kevlar 959 bodyshell layered on top by hand, like the original model. The proportions are faithful to the original, with the added analogue purity of a period-correct flat six. A rebuilt 3.0 litre air-cooled flat six sits under the rear deck, fed by triple Weber carburettors, Bursch hot coated headers, with functional rear bumper cooling ducts and custom dual exit stainless steel exhaust system. The rebuilt 915 gearbox features short gears and a factory short-shift kit for a more raw, mechanical feel. Open the door and you'll find Sparco seats, a classic Lecarra steering wheel, retrimmed rear buckets, the traditional five dial cluster and a discreetly updated Sony audio system. Suspension, steering, wiring, brakes, seals, glass have all been renewed, upgraded or replaced. Even the original Porsche plaques remain in place.
