According to the accompanying Kardex, this exclusive Porsche 356 B S 90 Cabriolet was delivered new on December 21, 1962, to the famous Brumos Porsche dealership in Jacksonville, Florida. The first owner was none other than Hubert Brundage himself, founder of Brundage Motors (BruMos), who turned his Volkswagen dealership into an icon of Porsche motorsport. Brundage chose the most expensive pushrod-powered 356 variant: a Cabriolet equipped with the powerful 1.6-liter four-cylinder boxer engine producing 90 hp. This example is a late “T6” version, featuring the distinctive twin grille design and an external fuel filler on the right front fender.
The car was ordered in the rare color combination of black with black leather interior, and further specified with twin armrests, headrests, and chrome wheels. According to the Kardex, Brundage kept the car only for a short time before it was sold to Alan Bruckner, a lawyer in Miami who enjoyed the sporty Porsche for ten years. It was later stored with engine issues until it was discovered in the 1990s as an exciting restoration project. Once retrieved from storage, the car underwent a full restoration. The original engine case was replaced with an unstamped unit sourced directly from Porsche and rebuilt to Super 90 specification.
During the restoration, both the bodywork and interior were refinished in the original full black color scheme. The trim was re-chromed, a new soft top was installed, and numerous seals and rubbers were replaced. In 2016, the car was purchased by its last owner and exported to the Netherlands.
This powerful Cabriolet was not only the most expensive pushrod-powered 356 when new, but also carries extra historical significance as it was originally ordered by Hubert Brundage, founder of the legendary Brumos Porsche. The car comes with a copy of the Kardex, a Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, the original driver’s manual, its annex, and a Blaupunkt radio. The car is now registered in the Netherlands.
