History: The coachbuilder, Merdardo Fantuzzi, formerly worked at Maserati. Ernesto Maserati encouraged Mauro Fantuzzi, Merdardo Fantuzzi's grandson, to also work at Maserati.

Mauro Fantuzzi began working at OSCA (Officine Specializzata Costruzioni Automobili), a company founded by the Maserati brothers, in 1956. He had to start from the bottom and had a tough time with the Maserati brothers.

All three Maserati brothers only ever drove used Fiat 103E and Fiat 1100TV, in which they also installed and tested their engines for experimental purposes.

Mauro Fantuzzi couldn't afford any of the OSCAs he helped build, but dreamed of owning one. When he later moved from OSCA to his uncle's Carrozzeria Fantuzzi in early 1960, he encouraged his colleagues to build him a car with a Barchetta body in the Osca style, using a Fiat chassis he received from Ernesto or Bindo Maserati, the remains of a crashed racing car, and the 1490 cc 372FS engine.

The Barchetta has no racing history, was never used in competitions, and was mostly under the radar of Osca collectors.

The car was mistakenly offered as a genuine Osca MT4 at two different auctions in the USA. When collectors noticed this, the auction descriptions were very unfortunately altered, and it was labeled a fake.

The documents, books, and information from Mario Fantuzzi, the son of the founder of Carrozzeria Fantuzzi, and many other very reliable sources, prove that this is not the case. The vehicle was restored in the 1990s. Extensive damage occurred while stored in a museum, which was repaired starting in 2020. All original documents, the original Italian registration number, and numerous articles and books are present.
