Description

Highlights

This MINI Cooper S Clubman from the R55 generation dates from 2008 and combines the distinctive Clubman body with the 174 hp Cooper S powertrain and a manual gearbox. The car has covered 198,500 kilometres and is finished in metallic black with a black part-leather interior. Equipment includes a panoramic glass roof, heated seats, xenon headlights, PDC and the Chili Package, complemented by original factory BBS wheels and a complete set of winter wheels and tyres.

Of particular relevance is the extensive mechanical attention the car has received in recent years. According to the seller, approximately €14,000 has been invested over the past two years, with supporting documentation available. The car is fitted with a replacement engine which, according to the seller, remains under warranty until January 2027. As a result of the replacement engine, the car is not matching numbers.

General information about the model

With the R55, MINI interpreted the Clubman concept in a modern and distinctly individual manner. Rather than simply turning the MINI into a conventional estate, the Clubman received a more practical body than its more compact siblings together with its characteristic split rear doors. This unusual combination of compact dimensions, estate-car practicality and sporting character gives the R55 its particular appeal today.

In Cooper S specification, the sporting side becomes considerably more pronounced. This car is recorded with a 1,598 cc four-cylinder petrol engine producing 174 hp, or 128 kW, front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The Clubman therefore combines its unusual body style with the driver-focused character associated with Cooper S models.

This vehicle

Exterior

First registered in September 2008, this Clubman is finished in metallic black. The original factory BBS wheels add a sporting touch, while a complete set of winter wheels and tyres is also included with the car. A panoramic glass roof forms part of the specification. The recorded condition rating for the paintwork is three out of five stars.

The car's history also includes minor body damage to the front right-hand side. According to the seller, this was professionally repaired. The vehicle is therefore expressly not offered as accident-free, with the repair transparently disclosed as part of its history.

Interior

The cabin is finished in black with part-leather upholstery. Heated seats, air conditioning, electric windows, central locking and cruise control complement the specification, together with the aforementioned Chili Package and panoramic glass roof. The interior carries a recorded condition rating of four out of five stars.

Mechanical

An important aspect of this Clubman's recent history concerns its mechanical condition. The original engine is no longer fitted and has been replaced by another unit. According to the seller, the replacement engine carries a warranty until January 2027, and the relevant documentation is available. Consequently, the car is not matching numbers; apart from this, according to the information provided and confirmed, the vehicle has not been modified.

Numerous additional works have been carried out over the past two years. These include a new clutch, new heat exchangers, new valve stem seals, new throttle bodies and new gearbox seals. The xenon lighting has also received new Osram D1S 35W XENARC NIGHT BREAKER LASER bulbs. The seller states that approximately €14,000 has been invested during this period, with supporting documentation available. The recorded condition ratings are four out of five stars for the mechanical components and five out of five for the engine.

History

The MINI was first registered in September 2008 and currently shows 198,500 kilometres. Four previous owners are recorded. The Clubman has been with its current owner since 2024. This more recent period of the car's history is particularly characterised by the extensive mechanical work described above, which the seller confirms is supported by documentation.

The replacement engine is an important part of the car's history and is expressly disclosed, as is the professionally repaired minor body damage to the front right-hand side. This is therefore neither a matching-numbers nor an accident-free example, but rather a Cooper S Clubman that has been used over the years and has received substantial mechanical attention more recently.

Service and documentation

The car is accompanied by its service book as well as the owner's wallet containing the operating manual and further documentation. The service book records maintenance through 2017; since the current owner acquired the car in 2024, servicing has once again been regularly documented according to the seller. The available documents have been checked, and supporting documentation for the recent work and expenditure is also available. No separate appraisal report is present.

Summary

This Cooper S Clubman is not a low-mileage collector's car that has spent its life beneath a cover. Instead, its story is that of a used R55 with 198,500 kilometres, into which considerable investment has recently been made to address its mechanical substance. The replacement engine means it cannot claim matching-numbers status, but according to the seller it comes with a warranty lasting until January 2027.

Finished in metallic black and equipped with original factory BBS wheels, a panoramic glass roof, Chili Package, winter wheel set and the 174 hp Cooper S powertrain, the car has a characterful specification. For enthusiasts of early modern MINIs, its appeal lies less in museum-grade originality than in its combination of distinctive Clubman design, manual transmission, sporting performance and documented recent investment.

Personal impression

I like cars whose histories have not been artificially polished smooth. This Clubman has covered almost 200,000 kilometres, received a replacement engine and carries a repaired bodywork incident in its past – and all of that is openly disclosed. More interesting is what happened afterwards: according to the seller, around €14,000 was invested over two years. Add original BBS wheels, a manual gearbox, Cooper S performance and those wonderfully individual Clubman proportions. This is no museum piece, but a MINI that apparently intends to keep doing exactly what it was built to do: drive.
