The MGA roadster marked a turning point in British sportscar design, combining classic charm with modern, aerodynamic lines. Its low-slung body, wider stance, and smooth curves improved performance and handling, departing from the upright, pre-war styling and attracting a new generation of drivers. Powered by a 1.5 litre B-series engine producing around 68 hp, its lightweight frame and responsive steering made it lively on winding roads, while the four-speed manual gearbox enhanced the driving experience. Inside, the cockpit was simple and functional, with clear gauges. The MGA also gained motorsport popularity, boosting its reputation.
Little is known of this car in its early years, it was manufactured in 1956 so is an early car in the production run, however it was not registered in the UK until October 1982. It was originally built as a right hand drive car, as confirmed by the chassis number. It is thought the car was used in its standard form until it was purchased by Steve Efstathiou in 2001. He rallied the car extensively, adding a roll-bar that looks great and can be used with the hood up if required. Steve is a knowledgeable chap, adding dual wiring systems and fuel pumps for additional reliability during events. A limited slip differential was added, along with front disc brakes, upgraded carburettors and camshaft, 72-spoke wire wheels were also fitted, together with harness seatbelts, spot-lamps towing eyes etc. A FIVA licence was obtained in 2001 as a standard model in Class A3 and the car subsequently ran in the Rally Monte-Carlo Historique from 2002 until 2008 and again in 2010. Reliability was not an issue, with the car completing every event, recording class wins in 2006 and 2007. Presenting very well and reported to drive with no known faults, the current vendor has used this MGA as an everyday car. Its rallying heritage remains and this MGA Roadster represents a great opportunity to compete in Hillclimb events, Classic Touring Car Racing and Classic Rally Events. Consigned by Stewart Banks
