  • Time warp example

  • Incredibly low mileage

The Mercedes-Benz R107-generation SL was manufactured from 1971 through to 1989 and was the longest running production model after the G-Class. The third-generation SLs were sold as the 280 SL, 300 SL, etc. up to the 560 SL, each indicating the respective engine displacement. With its long bonnet, balanced proportions, and iconic chrome accents, the R107 embodied Mercedes’ understated luxury of the era. Today, it remains arguably one of Mercedes-Benz’s best-looking cars. Powered by a smooth 3.0 litre inline-six engine, the 300 SL offered refined driving dynamics and a well-earned reputation for durability. Available as a roadster with a removable hardtop, it combined open-air freedom with practicality. Today, it remains highly collectible, admired for its craftsmanship, reliability, and enduring style.

This is an opportunity to own one of the lowest-mileage Mercedes-Benz R107s in the world, with a condition that is surmountable with not only the mileage but with a high level of care and maintenance. It was first registered on 9th February 1989 and features gleaming white coachwork, with blue MB Tex trim to the front and the optional bench seat in the rear topped off with a blue contrasting mohair hood.

The car boasts just three previous keepers and has been garage-stored by each. Sold to its current vendor by Historics in May 2024, he has kept the car in the same exemplary condition in which he purchased it. Inside the fuel cap you can still find the original ‘Check the oil every 6,000 miles’ sticker, while in the boot the car retains its original tool roll in its original plastic pouch.

Originality is indeed the key word here and save for its tyres the car is completely original, unrestored, and as it would have been when it left the showroom in 1989, including the Blaupunkt cassette radio, an option from new. This 300 SL hasn’t lost any of Mercedes-Benz’s signature reliability and practicality either: it’s offered with two keys, handbooks, full size spare wheel, hardtop, and fitted lap belts in the rear, it also sailed through its most recent MoT, unsurprisingly with no advisories. This is undoubtedly one of the most collectable time-warp examples money can buy, in scarcely believable condition.
