Description

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1963, the 230 SL was a very different car to its predecessors. Intended as the replacement for the 190 SL, the 230 SL abandoned the four-cylinder engine in favour of a 2.3 litre fuel-injected, six-cylinder engine, producing 150bhp. The new engine was derived from that of the great 220 SE. The Paul Bracq penned body was an all-new, stylish design which became an instant classic. Beneath the skin, the running gear was conventional Mercedes-Benz, featuring independent suspension, disc brakes on the front and rear drums. Top speed was in excess of 120mph. Soon after the 230 SL was announced, Eugen Bohringer drove one to victory in the Spa-Sofia-Liège Rally.

Originally registered on 1st June 1965 this delightful 230 SL Pagoda has only had four owners from new, the current registered keeper owning the car for over 45 years. Clearly this has been a highly cosseted Mercedes-Benz with extensive work carried out over a long period. The engine has been rebuilt and runs beautifully. The bodywork has been taken care of, the car looks like it has new front wings and the paintwork has been finished to a high standard. The interior has been retrimmed in MB-Tex, the owner being conscious of keeping the car close to the original factory specification. The result of this significant ongoing investment is a 230 SL that presents in fabulous condition. A significant history file accompanies this Mercedes-Benz, together with a V5C registration document. Viewing is highly recommended of this desirable right hand drive, automatic example which is offered to auction at an extremely realistic estimate. Consigned by Stewart Banks
