Description

The Mercedes 230 SL was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motorshow, and was the successor of the 190 SL. From the beginning, the W113 had a six-in-line engine, which promised good performance. Both automatic and manual gearboxes were available, and most of the cars were sold in the USA. The timeless design of Paul Bracq still looks fantastic, and is a perfect blend of function and style.

This example was sold new in Belgium to the Swedish ambassador. In 1975, it was exported to Sweden and received a restoration in the period from 1979 until 1983. The car has been used for a couple of years after the restoration, and was then stored in a garage until the summer of 2022. The injection pump was then overhauled, as well as new brakes, new shock absorbers and new master cilinder were fitted. The rear differential is completely overhauled as well. Inside the seats are retrimmed in original and period correct Mercedes leather, and the hood is also a brand new one. The car drives really well and as it has been untouched for the last 40 years shows the right amount of patina. The paint still has a fantastic shine and has stood the test of time fantastically, but since it is an older restoration there are some slightly visible cracks. Nothing serious, but therefore not concours condition. The matching nrs. engine runs incredibly smooth and the original manual 4-speed gearbox shifts easily. The Mercedes comes with an extensive history going back as far as the early seventies, including period pictures of the restoration and a huge file of invoices. It has been fully serviced just now and is ready for use.

So if you are looking for an interestingly priced Mercedes 230 SL in a gorgeous colour combination and ready to be enjoyed, this may be the one. On top of that, it is an early car with manual gearbox from 1964, which makes it eligible for almost any pre-1965 event.
