Description

The 300 Sc Coupé of the W 188 II series offered for sale here is one of the very rare models with a sunroof. A limited number of 98 vehicles were built, only nine were fitted with the expensive option. The Venti steel sunroof has a hand lever in the passenger footroom and makes driving in sunshine a pure pleasure.

The car was assembled on 21 February 1956 and delivered to Gloria-Filmverleih GmbH in Munich (Germany) on 3 March of the same year. The company was founded in 1949 by Ilse Kubaschewski, who soon became one of the most sought-after film distributors and producers of the 50s and 60s. The vehicle remained in her possession until 1966, when it was sold to Regensburg, not too far away.

The coupé remained in Germany in the following years (region Stuttgart / Munich) / Bremen), all owners are documented. On the basis of the original chequebook and other documents, the total mileage of today’s 88,700 km can be fully documented.

In 1982 it was restored by the company “Christoph Kreuzer & Sohn” in Würzburg. Thanks to careful care and regular maintenance, it is now in an excellent, extremely authentic condition.

History of the series

The Mercedes W 188 series was presented to the public in October 1951 at the Paris Motor Show. In 1955, the model series, which consisted of a coupe, convertible and roadster, was then revised and renamed the 300 Sc. In addition to plenty of chrome trim, an elaborate fuel injection system was installed, giving the car a powerful 175 hp. A distinctive feature is the inscription "EINSPRITZMOTOR" on the rear bumper.

Despite technical and optical improvements, only 200 units of all three body variants of the 300 Sc were produced. Production of the 300 Sc series ended in April 1958. The reasons for this development can certainly be attributed to a certain extent to the appearance of the 300 SL Roadster, which probably represented the more attractive offer for many potentially interested parties - after all, despite its more contemporary design and increased performance, it was 4,000 DM cheaper and successful in racing.

Both versions, the 300 S and the 300 Sc, are among the most exclusive Mercedes-Benz passenger car models of the post-war period and are today, along with the 300 SL, particularly sought-after collectors' cars.
