Description

Highlights

The Lotus Omega is among the most desirable high-performance sedans of the 1990s and is now a sought-after collector’s car. This example was first delivered in Germany, still wears its original paint, is accident-free, and was stored dry and preserved for decades. In 2024, it received an extensive technical overhaul including new turbochargers worth over €10,000, with invoices available. A complete service history, Classic Data grade 2+ rating, historic registration and TÜV valid until 12/2025 underline the exceptional quality and originality of this vehicle.

🏛️ General / Model History

Known as the Lotus Carlton in the UK, the Lotus Omega is considered one of the last true “wolves in sheep’s clothing.” At the end of the 1980s, Opel sought a way to position the Omega as a serious performance sedan and found an ideal partner in British sports-car specialist Lotus. The result was a technological tour de force: the 3.0-liter straight-six was transformed through twin turbochargers and extensive modifications into an engine producing 377 hp and a top speed of about 280 km/h – making it one of the fastest sedans of its era. Subtle in appearance yet uncompromising in engineering, the Lotus Omega quickly achieved legendary status. Estimates suggest around 950 units were produced between 1990 and 1992, with about 630 left-hand-drive cars and only a fraction originally delivered to Germany.

🔍 This Vehicle

Exterior This Lotus Omega retains its original paintwork, is free of modifications, and is confirmed to be accident-free. The bodywork remains in authentic factory condition, with all exterior components – wheels, aerodynamic elements, trim – matching the original specification.

Interior The interior features black leather and typical Lotus sport aesthetics. Equipment includes electric windows, electric sunroof, central locking, air-conditioning, on-board computer, radio, front airbags, leather steering wheel and fog lights. The cabin is well-preserved, original and in very good condition for its age.

Technical Condition From 1997 to 2024, the vehicle was stored dry and preserved. In 2024 it underwent a complete recommissioning, including turbocharger replacement and technical overhaul costing more than €10,000. Invoices and the old refurbished turbos are included. An additional aluminium auxiliary tank – a period upgrade – is installed. The car has a fully stamped service book and complete maintenance documentation.

History According to the documents, this is a German first-delivery example with a complete service history. It is accident-free, in first paint and has never been used as a project or parts car.

Service / Documents Includes the original service book, all relevant paperwork, invoices for the recent overhaul and Classic Data short report with a 2+ rating.

🧾 Summary / Conclusion

This Lotus Omega is an exceptionally authentic and collectible example of a true automotive legend. With German first delivery, complete documentation, accident-free original paint and an extensive technical overhaul, it is one of the rare, high-quality cars on the market today. Historic registration and TÜV until late 2025 make it ready for immediate use. The Classic Data 2+ rating confirms its excellent substance – a car suited equally for collectors and enthusiasts who want to drive it.

💬 Comment / Personal Impression

The Lotus Omega has always been a symbol of extreme automotive capability – once at the center of debates about speed limits, today admired as one of the last uncompromising power sedans. This example shows a level of technical care and preservation rarely found. Anyone who has heard the deep rumble of its twin-turbo straight-six knows: this is a modern classic that commands respect both on display and on the road.
