Description

The first-generation Range Rover was initially not designed as a luxury 4x4; while certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed to be washed down with a hose. Features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth/leather seats, and wooden interior trim were fitted later. The Range Rover was a body-on-frame design with a box section ladder type chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers. It utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes and was originally powered by the Rover V8 engine.

First registered on 1st April 1983, this amazing time warp Range Rover was bought new by Leon Gibbs who owned and ran a Peugeot dealership. Ordered with option Pack B that included front mudflaps, this example was specified in Vogue Blue metallic with a cream interior. Having only covered a remarkable 28,000 miles in its 42-year life, this Range Rover is in remarkable condition throughout. Never restored, only well maintained, you can see every element from the engine bay to the coveted original Mk. I interior with its early binnacle and Smiths gauges are in fantastic condition. The vehicle retains the smell only an original interior can produce that takes you straight back to 1983! The 3.5 litre V8 engine is reported by the vendor to run extremely well, as does the rest of the car. With the vendor being only the second keeper, this example must be one of the lowest mileage and ownership combination Range Rovers in existence and presents a unique opportunity for an enthusiast to have supreme bragging rights amongst Range Rover circles.

Supplied with a V5C registration document as well as an impressive array of original handbooks, backpack and period advertising literature. A rare opportunity indeed to acquire not only a low mileage and low ownership example of the impressive Range Rover four door, but also a practical and enjoyable classic. Consigned by Will Penrose
