Description

1936 Lagonda LG45 Drophead Coupé
Registration no. CXV898
Chassis No. 12015
One of only 278 LG45s produced during 1936/37, this example was discovered in 'barn find' condition – complete apart from two missing quarter-lights – in a South Wales barn in the early 1980s. Restored by 1991, it then benefited from an interior re-trim in Bridge of Weir leather and was displayed at various shows in the Bristol area over the years. The car received an all important replacement engine block during the restoration,
Coachwork is Lagondas own aluminium drop head coupe which provides extremely elegant & practical accomodations for 4 people. Lowering the roof is a 10 second affair completed by simply unlatching the central header rail handle & pushing the whole ensemble backwards having first released tension on the dumb irons. Exterior paint is two tone dark & mid blue. The interior is clad in blue hide along with blue carpets which also extend to the capacious boot area. The blue fully lined hood is in very good condition affording snug protection from the elements when raised.
The engine is of course a Meadows 4.5 litreunit. This is the 12 spark plug version with a magneto illuminating plugs to one side of the engine & a coil doing duty to the other side providing excellent reliability. THe car is far more sporting in nature then an equivalnet Derby Bentley & also boasts more performance being confortably at home in modern traffic conditions. Twin side mount spares are fitted with covers & also a central spotlight to augment the large Lucas P100 headlamps.
