Description

Highlights

This 2000 Jaguar XKR Convertible combines the 4.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 363 hp with an Arden specification that was already ordered by the first owner. The black convertible with black leather has been with the current collector for a remarkable 23 years and has a documented mileage of 76,860 kilometres. Its accident-free status as well as Matching Numbers and Matching Colors are confirmed by the reviewed documentation. Recent work included replacement of the timing chain tensioner, fuel pump and a rear axle oil seal.

General Information about the Vehicle

With the X100 series, Jaguar returned to a design language that clearly recalled the marque's great sports cars of the past: a long bonnet, low waistline and flowing rear end. With the XKR, this classic Gran Turismo architecture was complemented by the decisive technical ingredient – forced induction.

The vehicle offered here is powered by a 3,996 cm³ V8 with supercharging and 363 hp or 267 kW. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel disc brakes, ABS, power steering, central locking, electric windows and airbags are part of the recorded specification.

The original seller's description states that a total of 14,076 XKR convertibles were produced and estimates the number of left-hand-drive cars at around 7,000. As the latter is expressly an estimate, no further claim regarding rarity is derived from it. In this case, the individuality comes instead from the confirmed Arden specification, which was already ordered by the first owner.

This Vehicle

Exterior

The left-hand-drive XKR is consistently finished in black. The photographs show the characteristic flowing proportions of the X100 series with its long front end, oval grille and smoothly tapering bodywork. In this dark colour, the convertible appears understated while at the same time being remarkably imposing.

The Arden specification visibly distinguishes the vehicle from a completely standard XKR. Its configuration is confirmed by the reviewed documentation. The car presents a well-kept overall appearance in the available photographs. Its stated accident-free condition is documented, as are the Matching Colors.

Interior

The black configuration continues inside with a black leather interior. The cockpit combines the typically Jaguar GT atmosphere with the equipment of a powerful grand tourer from the turn of the millennium. The combination of dark leather, automatic transmission and open bodywork is more reminiscent of a sophisticated Grand Tourer than a uncompromising sports car.

The interior configuration has been confirmed based on the available documentation. Together with the black bodywork, it creates a particularly cohesive appearance, with the Arden specification adding an extra touch of individuality.

Technology

At its heart is the 4.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 363 hp. Power is transmitted through a five-speed automatic transmission. The documented mileage is 76,860 kilometres. The VIN is SAJAA42J8YPA09163; Matching Numbers have been confirmed based on the reviewed documentation.

Particular attention was paid to the timing chain system in recent years. On the recommendation of a Jaguar specialist workshop, the timing chain tensioner was replaced as a precaution. Further work followed before a driving exercise in June 2026: the fuel pump was replaced, the fuel tank was cleaned and a rear axle oil seal was replaced as a precaution. The subsequent test drive in June 2026 was completed without problems according to the available information.

The vehicle is currently not registered and is listed in the database as not roadworthy.

History

The most remarkable aspect is the long-term ownership situation. The current collector acquired the XKR Convertible 23 years ago. Before that, the first owner had already ordered the car with the confirmed Arden specification.

Until around four years ago, the Jaguar was regularly driven on its own registration plates. It then remained part of the collection and was used only for occasional running and movement drives. The documented 76,860 kilometres are therefore consistent with a vehicle that remained with the same owner for a very long period without being completely withdrawn from use.

The accident-free status, long-term collector ownership and mileage are confirmed by the reviewed documentation. Particularly for a high-performance youngtimer of this generation, such a long period of ownership is an important part of its individual history.

Service and Documentation

The available and reviewed documentation includes the vehicle papers as well as evidence of the Arden specification. The recent technical work on the timing chain tensioner, fuel pump, fuel tank and rear axle oil seal is also documented.

Matching Numbers and Matching Colors have been confirmed. The stated accident-free condition and mileage are also documented. No separate condition or valuation report is available. Due to the currently uneven engine running, the cause should be professionally diagnosed and rectified before the vehicle is returned to regular use.

Summary

This XKR Convertible possesses several characteristics that make its classification as a youngtimer particularly interesting: 363 hp from a supercharged V8, the open X100 body, a confirmed Arden specification and 23 years with the current owner. Added to this are the documented 76,860 kilometres, Matching Numbers/Colors and documented accident-free status.

The recent work shows that important technical points have been addressed despite the reduced use of the vehicle. At the same time, the currently uneven engine running is transparently part of its present condition and requires diagnosis. This is therefore not a Jaguar whose technical situation should be glossed over, but rather a characterful XKR with an unusual long-term ownership history and a clearly identified need for attention.

Personal Impression

A black XKR Convertible is already a remarkably confident car in standard form: a long bonnet, a supercharged V8 and enough British restraint not to require an explanation of its 363 hp in every car park. The Arden specification gives this example a more individual character without changing the fundamental concept. What I particularly like, however, is the story of 23 years with one owner. The uneven engine running now needs to be properly diagnosed – and that is exactly how it should be presented. Once resolved, this Jaguar will once again offer a very fast, very British way of travelling in the open air.
