The Jaguar XK was conceived as a modern British grand tourer. Not a small, nervous sports car, but a fast and comfortable automobile capable of covering serious distances with ease. Its body was constructed largely from aluminum, helping to keep weight under control and allowing Jaguar to build a large, luxurious convertible without making it feel cumbersome.
Designer Ian Callum gave the Jaguar a long hood, a low cabin, and broad rear haunches. There are references to earlier Jaguars, but nowhere does the XK attempt to imitate the E-Type. It is clearly authentic in its own right, yet still unmistakably a Jaguar.
This particular example dates from 2011 and belongs to the updated generation. The XK received revised details at both the front and rear and was equipped with the 5.0-liter V8. And that is something you notice immediately. Beneath the long hood lies the naturally aspirated V8, producing approximately 385 horsepower. No supercharger and no turbochargers. Just five liters of displacement, eight cylinders, and an engine that sounds increasingly enthusiastic the farther you press the accelerator.
During relaxed driving, the engine remains discreetly in the background. Lower the roof, select Sport mode, and apply a little more throttle, however, and you immediately understand why Jaguar had no need for artificial sound effects. This V8 sounds truly magnificent. The six-speed ZF automatic transmission shifts smoothly and suits the character of the car perfectly. You can cover long distances in complete comfort, while the steering-wheel-mounted paddles allow you to decide for yourself when the engine should be allowed to stretch its legs a little longer.
The fabric top opens and closes electrically. Within moments, the XK transforms from an elegant grand tourer into a fully open automobile. And with this particular color combination, it may be at its very best in that form. Radiance Red in the sunlight, Caramel leather surrounding you, and that V8 providing the soundtrack in the background. A beautiful day really does not require much more.
Inside, the car is also fitted with the 525-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system. A serious installation with sufficient quality to reproduce any favorite recording with convincing clarity. In theory, at least. Because with the roof down and the V8 fully awake, there is a good chance the stereo will regularly be given the day off.
This example has covered only 53,000 kilometers and is presented in neat, well-maintained condition. It has been carefully serviced and remains particularly attractive both inside and out. This is not a color combination you encounter on every XK. Nor is it a specification that disappears entirely in a gray parking garage. A 2011 Jaguar XK 5.0 V8 Convertible finished in Radiance Red Metallic with Caramel Softgrain leather, Burl Walnut veneer, and an exceptionally comprehensive audio system. The stereo delivers 525 watts, but the finest music still comes from up front. Contact Gallery Aaldering today and discover this Jaguar for yourself.
