For many car enthusiasts, the 1990s were the best years. It was the era of the iconic cars. F40s, F50s, EB110s and, of course, Diablos: many a bedroom was plastered with posters of them. Jaguar ventured onto this battleground with the XJ220, aiming to prove that a Jaguar wasn’t just for elderly men in red corduroy trousers. Initially, the prototype was fitted with a V12 under the glass bonnet, but strict emissions regulations threw a spanner in the works. It proved too expensive to build the car with this engine, so an alternative was sought. This turned out to be a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, which had already proven itself in rallying at sister company Rover. At first, it didn’t seem like a wise choice for a supercar, yet upon its launch, the XJ220 was the fastest production car in the world. The car was developed and built in collaboration with TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing). In the end, only 281 were built.

It is, therefore, a unique car and we are proud to be able to offer this particular example. On 11 January 1993, this car left the factory and in June of that year it was delivered to Masao Kosugi, a Japanese national living in Great Britain. He had ordered the car in Spa Silver with a Smoke Grey interior. He cherished the car and spared no expense on its upkeep. In 1993, he took it to TWR Jaguar Sport twice for servicing, after which the car was shipped to Japan. The car spent a large part of its life there, and all maintenance was carried out there too. The front parts were ordered from XJ220 specialist Don Law in England.

In 2015, the car was sold to an Englishman who brought it back to the UK. He owned the car for just one year, after which DK Engineering acquired the XJ220 for its showroom in late 2016. DK carried out a major service on the car and subsequently sold it to the third owner. In June 2023, the car returned to DK Engineering, after which the fourth and current owner took possession of it. Whilst being prepared for sale, the car was sent to Don Law Racing, who replaced the fuel tank and carried out an extensive service costing nearly 35,000 GBP. This included replacing the clutch, renewing the fuel lines and pumps, overhauling the shock absorbers and suspension, renewing the brakes, replacing gaskets (including the head gasket), and so on. Naturally, all the work carried out is clearly itemised on the invoice.

At present, the car has covered just 6,513 kilometres. It goes without saying that this XJ220 is in exceptionally fine condition and is technically flawless. Maintenance has been carried out exclusively by the world’s leading specialists. This is therefore a unique opportunity to acquire this icon from the 1990s. We would be delighted to invite you to come and see it for yourself!
