Some Jaguars were built to be fast. Others to make a statement. The XJS was conceived for something different from the very beginning: long distance comfort, refinement, and quiet cruising. When Jaguar introduced it in the seventies as the successor to the E Type, the brand deliberately chose a new direction. Not a pure sports car, but a Grand Tourer that carries you effortlessly from city to coast. That character has always defined the XJS, even when the open versions appeared later.
This 1994 example clearly shows why the model holds such a firm place among enthusiasts of classic Jaguars. It is a car with only two owners, just 39,000 miles, and a documented history that includes a clean Carfax report as well as the full set of books and records. Its first miles were driven on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, after which the XJS spent years being enjoyed on relaxed drives around Malibu. That kind of use fits perfectly with what the XJS was always meant to be.
*Elegantly presented
*
The specification is exceptionally tasteful: Ice Blue paired with Magnolia beige leather upholstery. A color combination that suits this model beautifully. Not overly bold, yet unmistakably elegant and classic. Combined with the long hood and the restrained rear design, the car has a presence that feels timeless rather than trendy.
This is also the desirable 2 plus 2 Convertible, in which Jaguar succeeded in preserving the proportions of the coupe remarkably well. The top folds neatly into place and the overall silhouette remains balanced, something that is certainly not a given with open cars.
*An inline six with the right character
*
Under the hood sits the 4.0 liter inline six. It matches the personality of the car perfectly: smooth, quiet, and made for long journeys. Not aggressively sporty, but exactly what you expect from a Jaguar Grand Tourer of this era.
This Jaguar has been demonstrably well maintained and presents in very fine condition. The details confirm it: the interior appears well cared for, the top fits properly, and the overall presentation shows a car that has been used and preserved with attention. The kind of Jaguar that does not just photograph well, but convinces in person.
It is becoming increasingly clear how special this series really is: a Jaguar from an era when comfort, design, and long distance usability were central to the brand’s philosophy. Good examples with a clear history are becoming harder to find.
This car fits that profile perfectly: correctly specified, carefully maintained, and ready for many more years of enjoyable driving.
