British Post-War Elegance – Jaguar 2½ Litre Saloon from 1948
The immediate post-war period presented the European motor industry with major challenges. Jaguar was among the manufacturers that managed to make a particularly impressive comeback. The Jaguar Mark IV 2½ Litre Saloon was based on the model introduced by SS Cars before the Second World War, but was continued under the Jaguar name after the war ended. It thus marked the beginning of the era in which Jaguar was to develop into one of the most renowned British car brands.
With its classic saloon body, free-standing wings, distinctive radiator grille and harmonious proportions, the Mark IV epitomises the elegant style of British cars of the 1940s. The 2.5-litre inline six-cylinder engine with overhead valves was regarded at the time as reliable and high in torque, and gave the comfortable saloon respectable performance figures.
The vehicle on offer here is finished in classic black with a beige leather interior. In 2013, a comprehensive restoration costing over CHF 20,000 was carried out, ensuring the preservation and meticulous restoration of this classic car. The most recent registration as a classic car dates from May 2024.
This Jaguar Mark IV 2½ Litre Saloon embodies the transition from pre-war to post-war motoring and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant piece of British motoring history. For enthusiasts of classic Jaguar models, it offers authentic driving pleasure, a stylish presence and the unmistakable character of a genuine post-war classic.
