Few cars encapsulate the spirit of the Group B era quite like the Ford RS200. Developed solely to conquer the World Rally Championship's most extreme formula, fewer than 200 road-going examples were produced, with circa 50 dismantled for spares, before Group B was abruptly cancelled, cementing the RS200's status as one of the rarest and most desirable homologation specials ever built.
Offered here is an exceptionally well-executed RS200, chassis C327 FWX, built by renowned RS200 enthusiast Derek Pullan using a genuine factory chassis and original Ford RS200 components. Cars of this calibre occupy the very highest tier of non-factory RS200s, with Pullen's craftsmanship widely respected amongst enthusiasts and collectors alike. Rather than being simply assembled from reproduction parts, this example was created with authenticity to the original 1980s 1.8-litre Group B specification firmly in mind, utilising all genuine factory components originally intended to support Ford's competition programme. The car also boasts an enviable competition pedigree, having been campaigned by Derek Pullan before becoming closely associated with respected rally driver Tom Blackwood. It has appeared extensively at historic rally demonstrations, including the Race Retro Live Rally Stage, where its spectacular performance has made it one of the best-known 'hero cars' on the UK historic rally scene.
Mechanically, the specification is nothing short of exceptional. The Harvey Gibbs-built 1.8-litre BDT engine has been fully stripped and rebuilt, incorporating new SCS-specification camshafts, a Blue Sky Engineering cam carrier, an EFR 7670 twin-scroll turbocharger, eight 440cc injectors, a Waples big-port cylinder head and numerous further upgrades to deliver approximately 500bhp. Power is transmitted through a Quaife six-speed sequential gearbox, complemented by a rebuilt rear differential, power steering and an enlarged intercooler.
Further highlights include refurbished genuine 16-inch split-rim wheels with new tyres, uprated AP Racing brakes, RS200 Evolution seats with Sabelt harnesses, a plumbed-in fire extinguisher and quick-release steering wheel. Numerous genuine works components are also fitted, including the windscreen, header tank, rear clam hinges, Evolution grille, lamp pod with genuine RS200 lamp pod cover, carbon-Kevlar splitter and T-bar.
Offering the appearance, engineering and driving experience of one of rallying's greatest icons, this beautifully constructed RS200 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a highly developed and well-documented example with genuine period provenance. Combining exceptional performance, recognised craftsmanship and an established competition history, it offers enormous appeal to collectors and historic rally enthusiasts alike.
