Description

This very early 1969 Ford Capri 1300 L entered the care of its current owner in 2017, carrying with it a dream that began with a young enthusiast's ambition in Oxford. Originally intended for a V8 upgrade that never materialized, the car arrived in a sorry state, its wings corroded with neglect. Despite this, the underpinnings - chassis, floors, and engine bay - remained surprisingly sturdy.

Under the owners meticulous guidance, the car's trajectory shifted from a radical V8 transformation to a restoration dedicated to reclaiming its original factory essence. His dedication to authenticity led to a painstaking search for nearly every component as new old stock, a task demanding considerable time and effort.

Critical areas like the engine bay's suspension mounts, typically susceptible to rust, were revitalized. Each body panel, including the front wings and valance, sourced from private collections, arrived in great condition albeit with traces of surface rust due to prolonged storage. To restore the car's integrity, every panel underwent an extensive acid-dipping process, followed by meticulous repairs on a bodywork jig to retain as much of its originality as possible.

The engine underwent a thorough rebuild, staying true to its original specifications while embracing an uprated cam for enhanced performance. The inclusion of a disguised 'Dynamator' for electrical functionality, an original-type battery, and a fully restored gearbox highlighted the restoration's commitment to authenticity.

The interior was meticulously retrimmed to factory specifications, right down to the smallest fixings, while the intriguing placement of the Ford emblem on the passenger side tread was a nod to the brand's historical nuances. The acquisition of all chromework from a single collection and the utilization of Aldridge trimming for the interior underscored the meticulous attention to detail.

Mechanical enhancements included a refurbished rear axle, sourced wheels rejuvenated by 'Spit and Polish,' and the procurement of rare 8-inch rear brake drums. With over £50,000 invested in the project, including an £18,000 allocation for original new old stock body panels, this restoration embodied a dedication to excellence.

This immaculately restored Capri 1300 L, looking beautiful in Ermine White & Black Interior, claimed the prestigious 'Best in Show' at the Runnymede Car Show in 2021, a testament to the arduous four-year journey it underwent. From its remarkable transformation to its immaculate presentation, this car stands as a proud ambassador of automotive history, offering an exhilarating glimpse into an era of unparalleled craftsmanship and enduring style.
