Ford has had great success in America with the Mustang and wants to continue that success in Europe with the same recipe, but then tailored to the European market: an affordable sports car with four seats and reliable technology. The Capri is presented at 'the' Brussels Motor Show in January 1969 and a month later the positively received model can be ordered at the Ford dealer.

Under the skin, the Capri relies heavily on the Cortina. With a whole arrangement of four-cylinder and a six-cylinder, the Capri is almost immediately popular with the general public. In 1971 some minor modifications are made and the 3-liter Essex V6 is available as a luxury GXL. And since we call that version so specifically, you probably guessed it: that is exactly the version you see here.

This Capri Mk1 3.0 GXL simply looks beautiful. The beautiful golden-brown paint gives the Ford a very luxurious look, completely 'seventies' with the roof that has vinyl upholstery. The Capri has been carefully restored. No partly overpainted rubber parts, lock catches, chrome parts or skipped engine compartment: everything has been disassembled for a perfect result. So it's no wonder that the Capri makes a particularly fresh impression. The upholstery of the black roof is in top condition and we can also use that term for everything that can be found on parts of the exterior: lighting parts, chrome, bumpers as well as wheels and tires are exceptionally fresh.

We continue in the same way with the interior: new upholstery, fresh carpet and a dashboard that is in optimal condition. The meters, operation of the heater, radio and other items are all in an original but very beautiful condition, providing a lot of character. Once in the driver's seat, it is noticeable that the typically designed steering wheel and the gear knob are also in excellent condition.

Under the hood you can really see that attention has been paid to the restoration. What a fresh whole! Clean, new wiring and like new hoses are just the beginning because the engine block itself is also fresh 'und tadellos', or 'flawless' as we say in the Netherlands. The engine not only looks like it just rolled out of the factory, the 3.0 six-cylinder also functions that way. Smooth, powerful with plenty of torque providing sporty performance, it is clearly noticeable that this was the top motorization (apart from the RS) of the time. Coupled with the perfectly functioning four-speed gearbox, it is very pleasant to make kilometers with this sporty and yet reasonably practical coupe.
During the restoration, related matters such as the chassis and brakes were also checked or renovated, so the surprises that this Capri 3.0 GXL will provide will be purely positive.
