Description

**The BMW E9 Coupé **

BMW advertised the elegant and perfectly shaped CS coupés under the famous slogan "The joy of driving". They are undoubtedly among the milestones from BMW - not least because of their fantastic silky smooth and turbine-like six-cylinder engine and the very elegant design. The engine, later known as the M30, was to become a pillar of BMW's reputation as an engine manufacturer (and was, of course, kept in the programme in various modifications until 1996). It is a really fine unit, the block is made of grey cast iron, the cylinder head of light alloy, the overhead camshaft is driven by a chain; by varying the bore, displacements between 2.5 and 3.5 litres were possible. The bodies were built between 1968 and 1975 on a contract basis by BMW at the Karmann company in Rheine and then transported to Munich for completion. Not necessarily the best idea, as some vehicles suffered considerably during the long transport route due to the effects of the weather, with the result that many vehicles disappeared from the market as early as the 1980s.

The design is attributed to Wilhelm Hofmeister - the famous "Hofmeister kink" on the C-pillar. But we discover this stabilising kink already in the BMW 3200 CS, designed by Bertone. In any case, Italian stylistic elements are unmistakably present in the BMW E9, which contributes significantly to the lightness and filigree appearance.

The first models were the 2800 CS with 170 hp, followed by the 3.0 CS (180 hp) as a carburettor version. In autumn 1971, the first petrol-injection model variant was added, the 3.0 CSI (200 hp). The lightweight CSL versions were built from 1971 to 1975 and were intended for ambitious sports drivers. The 2500 CS (150 hp) was launched as an "economical" coupé in the wake of the oil crisis with limited success in 1974.

The Scuderia Sportiva Colonia paid particular attention to these technically mature coupés. The ravishing shape, the excellent chassis, the very good brakes and the powerful engine were - at the beginning of the 1970s - the measure of all things. The interior spoils the owner with luxurious materials, the seats are very comfortable with acceptable lateral support and the individually framed VDO round instruments are still a feast for the eyes today. One car tester wrote so appropriately that if James Bond had been a German, he would have chosen a BMW E9 as his company car, although he would certainly have appreciated the power steering in the CSI.

History of the BMW 3.0 CSI -SSC-488 offered here

This BMW E9 3.0 CSI was produced on 31 October 1974 and delivered to France on 2 December 1974. In 1989, this vehicle came to its last and presumably 3rd owner and was driven with licence plate 3300 RL 59 until the 1990s and then parked.

In 2012, the Scuderia Sportiva Colonia had the opportunity to acquire this BMW and, after a few years of "storage", it underwent a complete "Nuts & Bolts" restoration. To this end, the entire vehicle and its technology were dismantled and professionally overhauled. Bodywork, engine and all auxiliary units, chassis, brakes, electrics, interior, instruments... simply every detail overhauled or renewed. A few upgrades were also given to this CSI in the course of the restoration: Colour glazing, red full leather interior with matching loop carpet and door panels, 5-speed Getrag gearbox, 30mm lowering, Bilstein suspension, 16-inch Alpina replica rims with new Michelin tyres, sports steering wheel from the CSL, maintenance-free stainless steel exhaust system, Blaupunkt radio DAB Radio Frankfurt with automatic aerial, separate USB ports for mobile phone or navigation. In short, a perfect, as-new BMW 3.0 CSI in the elegant colour combination "anthracite metallic" (original BMW colour with the no. 055) with red leather interior and very useful options is waiting for its new owner. This car still needs to be run in according to factory specifications, we offer an additional one year warranty, provided that all service work is carried out at our premises.

Summary

To this day, the BMW E9 models are considered one of the most beautiful BMWs ever built. They offer space for 4 people and with the relatively large boot there is room for plenty of luggage. Hardly any other vehicle from the 70s combines elegance, sportiness and comfort in such a pleasant way as the BMW E9. The Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has set itself the task of dedicating itself with passion and devotion to the preservation of these fantastic vehicles. It is a coupé to see and be seen, with unmistakable DNA from its highly successful racing history. The 3.0 CSi in particular still drives like a modern BMW today. By the way, if you don't like the colour or installed options, we currently have over 10 other BMW E9s in restoration, whereby every potential buyer can choose their own individual BMW original color, as well as the options to be installed. We are happy to provide you with a customised offer for each vehicle, including a list of options, on request.

Please note:

The original speedometer will be reset by us to 0 KM after overhaul, as this vehicle is now starting its 2nd life. We offer you a guarantee of 1 year for all work carried out. The basic requirement is that all upcoming service work is carried out by us or a service partner selected by us.

This offer is non-binding and subject to prior sale. We have just carried out a new MOT including acceptance as a classic car and will register this vehicle briefly in Germany in order to facilitate re-registration for a new owner with the new German papers. Of course, copies of the French registration documents will be retained. The toolbox has been refilled, a spare wheel fitted, an operating manual is available, as well as a detailed restoration manual in which all the steps of the overhaul are comprehensively summarised.  Transport in a closed trailer in Europe, plus organisation of container shipping for the rest of the world
