Vintage and Prestige are proud to be offering this 1935 3 1/2 Litre Derby Bentley Park Ward Sports Saloon for sale. Prior to us selling this Bentley previously, it had over £22,000 spent on the mechanics with particular attention being paid to the bijor lubrication system as well as the suspension/steering components. At the same time, new leather gaiters were commissioned to cover the leaf springs which were removed from the Derby Bentley and re-tempered by Fiennes Engineering.
Upon arrival in Sweden the Derby Bentley joined a prominent collection where it was sparingly, but regularly used. A new clutch was recently fitted as the old was one was slipping slightly and near the end of its useful life. The exterior of the Derby Bentley is finished in ‘Prussian Blue’ over black and looks distinguished indeed. The paint work is all in fine order and polishes to a deep lustre. The four tyres are all excellent and the balance weight covers have been re-finished in ‘German Silver’. To the interior is blue leather, again in very fine condition. Matching blue carpets add to the pleasant ambience of the cabin. The dash is of highly figured walnut and is a particularly fine example. A modern heater has been discreetly fitted under the dash where it is unobtrusive whilst exuding creature comforts. Likewise, a single rear seatbelt has been fitted to allow safe use of a child seat to the rear. Both these features could easily be removed if not desired.
The engine bay is clean and original with the exception of a non-period coil. A compression test on the cylinders showed excellent results. Oil pressure runs at a high 28PSI once warm with the water temperature at a steady 70 to 80 degrees. Where this Derby Bentley really shines is the driving experience. The Bentley starts readily and drives with a taut supple ride that belies her age. The steering is precise and sharp with none of the wandering one associates with more tired examples of these vehicles. Indeed, one really has to drive this Derby Bentley to then have a benchmark as to how good these cars can be when correctly looked after. The rear axle is silent and it will drive at 60-70 MPH in an un-flustered manner.
The car is currently located 150KM south of Stockholm in a private collection & may be viewed there by appointment. It is Swedish registered & EEC taxes paid, but also is UK registered should it return to these shores.
