Description

Aston Martin DB4 Series II GT Specification

Year: 1960
Chassis Number: DB4/532/R
Right Hand Drive UK Specification

This outstanding Aston Martin DB4 Series II, built in December 1960, has been carefully developed in the spirit of the legendary DB4 GT. It combines period correctness with well chosen performance upgrades, making it equally suited for spirited road driving and historic rally events.

History

The documented history begins in 2011. In 2012, the car underwent an extensive upgrade programme by the respected specialist Marksdane, including GT style body modifications, mechanical enhancements and the installation of a non standard gearbox. The result is a purpose built fast road DB4 with a strong GT character.

Engine

The car retains its original DB4 engine block, number 370/548, which was fully rebuilt by RS Williams in 2012 to 4.7 litre Vantage specification at a cost of £30,550.
Triple SU HS8 carburettors improve breathing and throttle response, while a 123 electronic ignition ensures reliable operation.
The engine shows excellent compression values and was comprehensively revised again in 2023 at a cost of approximately €12,000.

Transmission and drivetrain

A Getrag 5 speed gearbox has been fitted, paired with a revised rear axle ratio of 3.54:1 for improved acceleration and flexibility. A very minor oil seepage at the pinion seal has been noted.

Chassis, suspension and brakes

The DB4 is equipped with a Harvey Bailey suspension kit, new anti roll bar bushes and a powerful braking system with servo assistance. The front brake discs show light corrosion, consistent with normal use.

Wheels and tyres

The car sits on wide 15 inch Borrani wire wheels with three ear knock offs, completing the GT appearance.
Tyres are Avon 205/70 R15.

Exterior and bodywork

The car features a full DB4 GT inspired appearance, including:

  • Covered headlamps
  • Deletion of front and rear bumpers
  • Quick release fuel fillers on both rear pillars
  • Lowered stance
  • Wider Borrani wheels

The paintwork is generally in good condition with minor age related imperfections. The underside retains a period correct bitumen style underseal.

Documentation

The car is supplied with:

  • The original Aston Martin build and delivery sheet
  • A photographic record of the restoration and upgrades

Recent work (2025)

In 2025, the car received a comprehensive mechanical inspection:

Braking system serviced and adjusted

  • Suspension fully checked
  • Major service completed
  • Prepared for technical inspection

The car is fully road ready and ready to be enjoyed immediately.
