The Rambler originally came from the West Coast of the United States. Just over ten years ago, it made its way to Germany. It was later acquired by an Austrian owner, who brought the vehicle to Austria and had it type-approved there. The AMC has been with the current consignor for just over five years.
The corresponding history and Austrian type approval have been reviewed based on the available documentation. For the current owner, the unrestored condition was a decisive factor in the purchase: instead of undergoing extensive cosmetic refurbishment, the existing substance was preserved, the car was mechanically maintained, and the original paint was recently conserved.
According to AMC specialists in Germany, this car may be the only known roadworthy example of its type in Central Europe. No independent confirmation of this rarity claim is available; accordingly, it is explicitly presented as an assessment by the marque specialists consulted by the consignor.
The vehicle documents and Austrian type approval are present and have been inspected. According to the consignor, the registered car has an Austrian “Pickerl” valid until summer 2027.
The vehicle also comes with the original owner's manual as well as an AMC factory repair manual from 1969. This AMC is wonderfully unconcerned with the modern idea that everything should be “perfect”. The paint has edges that show their age, the car wears its patina proudly, and at the rear it has a tailgate that apparently could not decide whether it wanted to be a door or a hatch – so it does both. Details like these are what make old American station wagons so fascinating. You could restore it and probably polish away part of its character in the process. Or you can simply accept that 1969 was quite a long time ago, get behind the wheel and let the V8 continue telling the story.
