Description

A rare opportunity to acquire what is believed by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club to be the earliest surviving Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint currently on Britain's roads. This remarkable 1978 example has outstanding originality and has had a sympathetic, award-winning restoration.

First registered in April 1978, this original UK-supplied right-hand-drive Sprint represents one of the purest surviving examples of Giorgetto Giugiaro's elegant sporting coupé.

This Alfa became the focus of a long-term restoration project driven by a passion for the Alfasud's unique character and engineering. Commencing in 2022, the work was entrusted to the award-winning Wraith Motors of East Barnet, who stripped the car to its bare shell before undertaking a ground-up rebuild.

The body was found to be exceptionally sound. Only the rear valance required replacement, with the remainder of the shell understood to retain its original factory metalwork. This level of originality is exceptionally rare among early Sprints and speaks volumes about the car's survival.

Finished in striking Giallo Pozzuoli Yellow, an original Alfa Romeo colour, the restoration was intentionally sympathetic rather than over-restored, preserving the authenticity and charm of the car while returning it to an exceptional standard. Considerable effort was invested in sourcing correct components from specialist suppliers, owners' clubs and enthusiast networks throughout the UK and Europe, including Italy and Greece. A comprehensive photographic record accompanies the restoration.

The interior has been beautifully retrimmed by specialist craftsmen in Kent, with the seats rebuilt from their original frames and upholstered using carefully sourced materials replicating the factory brown vinyl and distinctive check-pattern cloth. The boot compartment, suspension, trim and numerous mechanical components have also been restored or refurbished.

Showing just 52,000 recorded miles, the original matching-type 1.3-litre boxer engine is in lovely condition and has been well maintained. Renowned for its free-revving nature, distinctive flat-four soundtrack and eager performance, it remains one of the defining features of the Alfasud driving experience and perfectly complements the Sprint's light weight and renowned handling balance.

The history field is made up of previous MOTs, V5, Haynes Manual, Press Articled, Invoices, Tax Discs, Spare Keys and more.

Combining rarity, originality and historical significance, this beautifully restored Alfasud Sprint represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most important surviving examples of Alfa Romeo's groundbreaking sporting coupé.
