Beschreibung

The 1938 BSA Gold Star JM 24 is arguably the rarest and most significant of all Gold Stars to be produced.

The Gold Star name originated from riders who earned a coveted gold star badge after exceeding 100 mph at the famous Brooklands circuit. The BSA 500cc OHV model had developed into one of the most competitive single-cylinder racers, thus earning its Gold Star status on the track and for 1938, the new Gold Star model was born.

The 1938 Gold Star was powered by a 496 cc overhead-valve single-cylinder four-stroke engine, designed for high performance and durability. It was typically equipped with an Amal TT carburettor, which allowed precise fuel delivery for racing conditions, contributing to strong acceleration and impressive top speed of 100 mph.

What makes the 1938 model particularly rare is the number of unique features produced for that year only. These include a special petrol tank with a built-in toolbox and an ultra-rare magnesium gearbox, details that highlight the focus on performance and weight reduction.

This particular Gold Star has confirmed matching numbers and extensive documented history and retains all of the correct period components: aforementioned petrol tank, magnesium gear box, original BSA control levers, Lucas headlight, racing Amal TT carburettor and the list goes on.

The Gold Star was restored in the past and exhibited at several shows and has undergone further mechanical and cosmetic work in recent years, all recorded in the accompanying documentation. As a result, the Gold Star remains in very good condition both mechanically and cosmetically.

Furthermore, this particular Gold Star also featured in the reference book BSA Gold Star – Super Profile by John Gardner, a well-known publication covering both pre-war and post-war Gold Star models.

Complete and original 1938 Gold Stars with matching numbers are extremely rare to find, and this example represents an important and highly collectible piece of British motorcycle history.
