Description

Here we have a UK 150BHP CP chassis number Triumph TR6 with overdrive, finished in its correct original colour of Pimento Red, with correct original engine. VVM 955L was supplied new to the RHD Home Market, built on the 31st August 1972, leaving the factory with overdrive, petrol injection engine, heater and static seat belts and then registered new in Manchester. VVM 955L first came to us during the summer of 2021 and returned in early 2022 in part exchange for a Jaguar MKII as getting in and out of low sportscars was becoming more difficult. We supplied the TR6 with a full MOT, serviced it, replaced the tyres and delivered it to Norfolk and 150 faultless miles were covered. The TR6 was also cosmetically improved with around £2000 being spent on new stainless steel bumpers. re-trimmed seats and various detailing work. The TR6 returned in part exchange in late 2022 and since then further improvements include fitting electronic ignition, a new alternator, coil, new injectors, front brake discs and pads, new wheel cylinders, slave cylinder, brake shoes, steering rack mounting rubbers, steering column bushes and a new headlamp switch. Since selling the TR6 over 16 months ago our long term regular customer has covered over 700 miles in the car and a detailed log of its trips/rallies/events out add to the very impressive history file. The TR6 has been driven back over to us faultlessly from Howden ahead of taking delivery of the next purchase.

Prior to first selling the TR in 2021, it had been with its last owner for seven years and comes with an impressive history documenting all of its former owners, MOT's dating back many years, tax discs and a comprehensive file of invoices from various specialists and suppliers who have assisted in keeping this car in a fabulous condition and on the road for most of its life. This is now a sharp, older restoration in very impressive condition through previous owners spending money on the car in all the right places and ensuring it's been kept in optimum mechanical condition. This is a car that has been continuously maintained, never requiring a complete major rebuild due to impressive maintenance over the past 49 years. Much of the TR's early life was spent in Manchester and invoices and maintenance dates as far back as 1979. In 1980 Austin and MG retailers in Salford, Light Oaks Garage Limited carried out various restoration work on behalf of its owner that included bodywork and paintwork. Throughout the 1980's the TR was incredibly well maintained with invoices on file for further various mechanical work and in 1989 Eccles Car Hood and Cushion Co Ltd carried out re-trimming work included re-covering the seats and the car was treated to a major re-paint and light body restoration with all paint materials supplied by Auto Paint on Deansgate in Manchester City Centre. In 1990/1991 TR Bitz supplied many mechanical new parts as the car was undergoing re-commissioning work.

By the late 1990's the car was in the hands of one of our long term customers in Lancashire and further expenditure was lavished on what was a very usable, part restored yet largely original TR6. The car was sent over to TR Bitz for various work to include seat belts, a new hood and a local garage carried out mechanical work to include a new clutch and master cylinder. Throughout the 2000's the TR continued to be used and enjoyed with many invoices on record covering maintenance but in 2012 the car was treated to a more major program of work. TR Bitz once again supplied parts, this time for a program of bodywork that included new outer sills and various mechanical work totalling £3200. In 2016 S&M Triumph Restoration Ltd re-conditioned the overdrive unit and carried out related work costing over £2000 and the more recent program of mechanical work totals over £3000.

VVM 955L comes with MOT certificates dating back to 1986 when it had 83945 miles recorded. 36 years later the TR6 has covered a further 14700 miles taking the recorded mileage to 98,655 miles. This is a car that has spent most of its life on the road, continuously kept up too and maintained ensuring it has never required a major restoration. It has had money spent when required, consistently kept in strong usable, well presented condition that makes this quite a special car. It feels honest, it drives superbly with a strong engine holding impressive oil pressure, the gear changes are slick, the overdrive smooth and the car really does feel like a car that is ready for any adventure. It feels lusty, reliable, strong, its starts and runs perfectly from cold unlike so many fuel injected TR6's, and its appearance is impressive with lovely older paintwork, good strong, straight body panels, excellent new bumpers, and a very smart interior with freshly trimmed seats. These cars are not easy to find like this, it's not over restored, not too shiny, just right for regular use, long distance touring and enjoying on the open road.
