Description

TYF 97F is a RHD matching numbers Home Market TR5 PI that was built on the 28th May 1968, leaving the factory in Royal Blue as presented today. The TR5 was supplied new by Kennings Ltd, Peterborough and was supplied new with overdrive and heater. The TR5 PI is a highly desirable model with only around 1100 ever built and we travelled along way into rural North West Wales to view and collect this lovely example that boasts a very impressive specification.

This is very much a low ownership car and spent over 30 years with one owner who spent a lot of time working overseas, keeping the TR a relatively low mileage example. Its long term owner purchased the TR5 in 1976 and although only 9 years old, the car was ready for some restoration work and it was sent to the TR Workshop in London. Paperwork from its long term owner confirm this was virtually a ground up rebuild and cost in the region of £5000, a lot of money in the late 1970's! The London specialists used the car on completion to exhibit their work at various London Car Shows with agreement from the owner. TYF 97F was its owners pride and joy for the next 10-12 years and it was only driven in summer months and in 1991, work overseas meant the car had to go into dry climate controlled storage for several years. On return later in the 1990's, the same London specialists prepared the car for use again, but the long term owner only managed a few years of use before leaving the UK once again.

In 2006 having been stored since 2002, the cars owner of over 30 years once again had the car prepared, this time with Revington TR. The TR5 was serviced, MOT tested and then fitted with various brake upgrades and a brand new clutch. With almost 44,000 miles recorded, in 2009 the TR5 was sold having spent almost 33 years with just one owner. Since 2009 the TR5 has covered around 15000 miles and has been continuously improved and today boasts a great spec to include 4 pot brake calipers, stainless steel exhaust, oil cooler, Bosch fuel pump, electric cooling fan, electronic ignition, poly bushed suspension and MWS wire wheels. Invoices cover all maintenance over recent years and include a brand new steering rack, track rod ends, fuel tank, ball joints, core plugs, injectors and various other ongoing upkeep.

TYF 97F has an impressive history and whilst its very much an older restoration, it presents incredibly well and looks like a car that was subject of a body off rebuild 15/20 years ago. The bodywork is impressive including panel gaps, the chassis excellent and the general paintwork, brightwork, engine bay and underside all very smart. The interior trim has a nicely aged feel, and on the road the car does not disappoint. Mechanically its recently been fettled by TR Bitz, and is an excellent driving, strong, fit TR5 that offers impressive performance from its fuel injected six cylinder engine. With excellent oil pressure, a lovely smooth overdrive gearbox and its upgraded brakes and suspension, this is a fantastic car for touring and getting out onto the open road. Its powerful, quick, comfortable and offers a wonderful 1960's driving experience.
