We will be UK registering this car now it has arrived from Norway.
While most Silver Cloud IIs received the factory’s pleasant but bland “Standard Steel Saloon” body, a steady and tiny market remained for the enthralling custom coachbuilt bodies, personally hand-crafted to individual customer order. Among them was James Young’s design number SC12, a “six-light” example with rear quarter windows and a beautifully drawn rear deck. Despite its size, the car has an unusually graceful, long, and elegant silhouette, and was among the most attractive designs created for the long-wheelbase Silver Cloud II.
Only five examples of this design were made, two of them on left-hand-drive chassis; this being one of the 3 RHD examples making it a very rare car indeed. The car is in very nice condition overall & is currently having a new boot carpet made. The exterior paintwork is very tidy in royal garnet over black. To the interior is mid blue/grey leather again in very nice order. The car has beautiful burr walnut inserts with picnic tables recessed into the backs of the front seats along with built in vanity mirrors. This car is unusual in that it was produced as an owner driver car without division. The body is of course fully of Aluminium hand formed by James Young.
The engine bay is very very tidy & the engine runs in silence allied to a smooth gear box & wonderful ride quality from the longer wheel base. It has covered 136,000 miles from new & has been garage kept its entire life which accounts for its excellent state of preservation underneath.
The car is in nice condition overall having been regularly used & has very light patination rather then a show room fresh feel to it. A full service is being performed prior to sale by RR Experts Colbrook Specialists. It will thus be sold in perfect running order & ready for extended use. This is a rare elegant car with acres of room for the rear passengers & is way way ahead of the more pedestrian standard steel silver clouds out there.
