An exceptional example of one of Mercedes-Benz’s most elegant and desirable post-war coupes, this 1970 280SE 3.5 Coupe combines timeless design with meticulous restoration and recent comprehensive mechanical work.
Finished in stunning Moss Green Metallic, the exterior presents at an outstanding level. The bodywork is absolutely beautiful, with crisp lines, excellent panel fit and a deep, lustrous finish that perfectly suits the pillarless coupe silhouette. Chrome and brightwork are equally impressive, completing an exterior that is both striking and refined.
The interior is trimmed in Cognac leather and displays a wonderfully authentic character. Rather than being over-restored, it shows a perfect age-related patina, giving the cabin warmth, charm and a genuine period feel that is increasingly hard to find. Most notably, in 2024 the engine was removed for a full rebuild, with all components restored in detail. At the same time, the engine bay was stripped and repainted, while the gearbox, braking system and suspension were comprehensively overhauled.
As a result, the car now performs and handles exactly as it did when new, smooth, powerful and refined, with the unmistakable torque and character of the 3.5-litre V8. It drives with confidence, composure and precision, making it equally suited to relaxed touring or more spirited use.
