There are cars, and there are stories. This Borgward Isabella Cabriolet is both. Built in an era when automotive design was still drawn by hand and every line served a purpose, this exceptional convertible spent many years in private ownership before making its way to us from Berlin.
The Isabella Cabriolet is far from an everyday sight. Relatively few were produced, and today it is a car rarely encountered on the road or at concours events. Owning one means owning a distinctive piece of automotive history that few others can claim.
Carefully brought back to its best
The car arrived with us as a solid basis, but naturally showed the marks of time, including small scratches and imperfections in the paintwork from years of use. Rather than over-restoring the car, we chose to carry out everything necessary to bring this Isabella back to the high standard it deserves:
• Completely repainted in its original, timeless Elfenbein / ivory white, a colour perfectly suited to the elegant lines of the 1950s
• Brake system fully overhauled, improving both safety and driving confidence
• Interior professionally restored while retaining as much of its original character as possible
• Engine rebuilt with long-term reliability in mind
• New radiator with increased cooling capacity, allowing the car to perform reliably even on warmer days
• Various components replaced or repaired, always with the same objective: bringing the car to a genuinely high level
• New tyres fitted to complement the car’s chassis and driving characteristics
More than €45,000 has been invested in restoration and repair work, and all corresponding invoices are present, providing full transparency regarding the work carried out.
Original where it matters
What makes this Isabella particularly appealing is what has been preserved. The dashboard remains original, including the original radio, a detail collectors will certainly appreciate. The steering wheel is a work of art in itself: beautifully designed and crafted in a way rarely seen in modern automobiles.
The panel fit is excellent, the elegant lines of the bodywork present beautifully, and the overall impression is of a car that does not simply stand out because of its rarity, but because of the quality of its presentation.
Practical information
The car comes with German registration documents. The indicated mileage has been read from the odometer; as with many classics of this age, we are unable to substantiate its authenticity through documentation. We are, of course, happy to discuss this openly with interested parties.
A car to be enjoyed
This is not a car that deserves to spend its life waiting in a garage. This Borgward Isabella Cabriolet is ready for the road, for sunny drives with the roof down and for the admiring glances it is certain to attract at concours events and classic-car gatherings.
