The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT is one of the most beautiful Italian sports coupés of the 1960s. When Alfa Romeo introduced the model in 1963, it represented a remarkable combination of elegance, sportiness and technical sophistication. The young Giorgetto Giugiaro, then working at Bertone, created a body design whose timeless lines and perfectly balanced proportions continue to attract admiration today.
Its most recognisable feature is undoubtedly the famous Scalino, Italian for 'little step'. This distinctive step between the bonnet and the front of the bodywork gave the early models their characteristic appearance. Combined with the long bonnet, slender roofline and subtle chrome details, this feature gives the Giulia Sprint GT its unmistakable identity.
The model's production history makes this version particularly interesting. Between 1963 and 1966, approximately 22,000 examples of the original Giulia Sprint GT 1600 were built. By comparison, more than 200,000 cars were produced across the entire Bertone GT family. The early Sprint GT 1600 therefore represents a relatively exclusive and historically significant first generation within this legendary model range.
Beneath the elegant bodywork lies the renowned 1,567 cc four-cylinder Twin Cam engine, featuring twin overhead camshafts. Combined with a five-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and lightweight bodywork, this engine delivers the lively character and engaging driving experience for which Alfa Romeo is famous worldwide. With disc brakes on all four wheels and advanced engine technology, the Sprint GT was also remarkably sophisticated for its time.
