TRIUMPH TR3A – 1962
This stunning 1962 Triumph TR3A is one of the final examples produced of the successful "A" series, an evolution of the TR3 enriched with numerous technical and cosmetic upgrades.
Imported from France to Italy in 2011, it underwent a comprehensive and meticulous full restoration over several years, involving both the bodywork and mechanical components.
Restoration:
- The bodywork was carried out with great attention to detail, featuring high-quality paintwork, perfect panel alignment (doors, bonnet, and boot), and a flawless finish on all metal surfaces.
- The 1991 cc inline 4-cylinder engine was fully rebuilt.
- A high-performance aluminium cylinder head, compatible with unleaded fuel and worth approx. €4,000, was installed, improving cooling, combustion, and engine longevity.
Performance & Reliability Upgrades:
- High-speed starter motor for faster and more efficient starting.
- Modern alternator fitted into the original dynamo casing, preserving the period-correct appearance.
- Electric cooling fan for improved engine temperature control during hot summer months.
- Electronic ignition system for enhanced reliability and smoother running.
· One of the well-known weak points of the Triumph TR3 lies in its worm-and-peg steering box, a system that, while period-correct, is notoriously imprecise and heavy, especially at low speeds or over uneven surfaces.
This car has been significantly upgraded with a complete steering conversion to a rack-and-pinion system, based on the one used in the later Triumph TR4.
This modification results in a far more precise, responsive, and lighter steering feel, vastly improving handling, driving confidence, and safety, particularly in tight corners, urban driving, or spirited use.
The full conversion — including specific components, custom brackets, and specialized labor — represents an investment of over €3,000, but is widely regarded as one of the most beneficial upgrades for enhancing everyday usability without detracting from the car's historic character.
· Additionally, the car has been fitted with four brand-new Dunlop chrome wire wheels and new Firestone tyres, further enhancing the car’s aesthetics, road grip, and overall safety.
Additional Features:
- Rare original hard top, fully restored, offering greater comfort and usability during the winter season.
· The car is fitted with a Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, one of the most iconic and sought-after accessories in the world of British classic cars. Handcrafted in England, this wheel combines timeless elegance with sporting function, featuring a brushed aluminium frame and a hand-polished rim made from high-quality hardwood.
The Moto-Lita is a tasteful upgrade that perfectly complements the character of the vehicle, enhancing its vintage appeal while also improving steering feel and driving precision. It is widely regarded as a "must-have" accessory among enthusiasts of classic British motoring.
After the restoration, the car has never been driven.
The undercarriage is still immaculately clean, as if freshly restored.
It is fully registered in Italy, roadworthy, and ready to be enjoyed immediately.
The TR3A is notable for its wide front grille, minimalist yet charming interior, and excellent driving dynamics. Its lively engine, light weight, and responsive steering make it a joy to drive.
Thanks to its reliability and the wide availability of spare parts, it remains one of the most beloved classic British sports cars from the 1950s and '60s—perfect for touring or historic rally participation.
Taking into account the extensive list of accessories and mechanical upgrades, with an estimated value of over €12,000, along with the** quality of the restoration and craftsmanship**, the asking price for this vehicle is particularly attractive.
This is a car that combines the authentic charm of a true classic with enhanced usability and reliability, requiring no further work and ready to enjoy immediately. The balance between historical value, technical enhancements, and overall condition makes this offer especially appealing for those seeking a top-tier classic, ideal for touring, events, or collectors.
