Model history – A quantum leap for Rolls-Royce:
The Silver Shadow, which made its debut in 1965, marked the most radical transformation in the brand’s history. It was the first Rolls-Royce with a monocoque body, making it more compact yet more spacious inside than its predecessor, the Silver Cloud.
Particularly noteworthy are the technical innovations that made the Silver Shadow the most advanced automobile in the world at the time:
Hydropneumatic suspension: A high-pressure system licensed from Citroën provided automatic level control and the legendary “ride on clouds” sensation.
Safety & Comfort: Disc brakes on all four wheels and independent rear suspension were used for the first time.
Vehicle description:
This example represents the early, classic form of the Silver Shadow I with its delicate chrome bumpers, before more massive plastic elements came to dominate the design in later years. The fact that it was first delivered in Germany and has had only four owners underscores the exceptional character of this vehicle.
Mechanics & Maintenance:
No expense was spared when it came to reliability. In 2024, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive technical overhaul at Classic-Line. All relevant components were repaired, ensuring this classic is technically perfect for the coming season.
