MGB GT Mk1 1967 chrome bumper and wire wheels.
Primrose yellow with black interior and white piping.
With British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
Fitted with a Peter Burgess 1867cc engine.
The engine includes: sleeved block, forged steel crank, dynamically balanced, lightened flywheel, high-flow oil pump, Piper HR270 cam, large valve head, stainless exhaust system, K&N filter intake. It has been dyno tested to 94 bhp at the wheels.
I think PB has done a great job of tuning this engine so it is really nice to drive on the road. It pulls well from all speeds and has sensible mods to improve performance and durability. It has been super-reliable, starts easily and keeps up with modern traffic. At the last compression test cylinder pressures were all 185-190 psi, with good leakdown figures. Oil comes out nice and clean between changes and it barely uses any.
Also fitted with a three-synchro gearbox and overdrive.
I rebuilt the gearbox about 7000 miles ago to replace a broken gear. All bearings and seals were renewed and it has been trouble-free ever since.
I recently replaced the overdrive with a professionally reconditioned unit.
The body is sound underneath and the nearside floorpan and inner sill have been replaced. There are a few small rust spots in the paint and some blistering around one of the headlights but the bodywork is essentially solid.
I have a stack of receipts, service and repair records etc from previous owners, and my own service history to show regular maintenance (engine and gearbox oil changes, tappet setting, brake cylinder replacements, suspension greasing etc etc etc).
In addition I have carried out the following upgrades and renewed parts:
Fit contactless ignition
Fit all stainless braided brake hoses
Fit alternator conversion
Replace rear axle shims
Renew front lever arm dampers
Renew front suspension bushes
Replace all four wire wheels with new (the hubs are good)
Renew front brake calipers
Renew brake master cylinder
Renew track rod ends and steering rack gaiters
Renew fuel pump and all hoses
Renew carburettor jets, needles and float valves
Fit new telescopic rear dampers
Replace overdrive
Fit electric fan conversion with thermostatic control
Fit blade fuse conversion
This is not a concourse car and I have made what I believe to be sensible, helpful upgrades to make it more durable and reliable, as well as maintaining it carefully and regularly. It is an every-day, fun car I use as much as I can and am selling it reluctantly because I need to. I have tried to provide a useful and honest description. I believe the price reflects that this model is now quite rare, it is in good condition and is a practical proposition for someone who would enjoy driving it.
