From Working Vehicle to Modern Off-Road Icon – The 2007 Land Rover Defender 90 TDCi

Few automobiles enjoy a reputation as legendary worldwide as the Land Rover Defender. Its roots date back to 1948, when the original Land Rover was developed as a rugged working vehicle for agriculture, industry, and military use. Over the decades, it evolved into one of the most renowned off-road vehicle ranges in automotive history. While many off-road vehicles increasingly evolved into comfort-oriented SUVs, the Defender remained true to its original philosophy: uncompromising off-road capability, robust engineering, and a construction designed to perform even under the most demanding conditions.

The introduction of the Defender TDCi in 2007 marked a new chapter in the history of this iconic model. For the first time, the Defender was equipped with a modern 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine combined with a six-speed manual transmission. This technical evolution provided significantly improved driving comfort, lower engine speeds at motorway speeds, and greater everyday usability without altering the Defender's unmistakable character. The proven ladder frame, aluminium bodywork, permanent four-wheel drive, and exceptional off-road capability were retained, ensuring that the Defender remained one of the most capable production off-road vehicles available.

The vehicle offered here is presented in classic white with a black cloth and leather interior. With an indicated mileage of just 30,000 kilometres, this example is in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Of particular note is the extensively documented frame-off restoration, during which the vehicle was completely dismantled and professionally rebuilt. All work is comprehensively documented with photographs, descriptions, and invoices. This extensive documentation will be handed over to the future owner together with the vehicle.

The vehicle's history also includes a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, documenting the Defender's origins. The vehicle was originally delivered in England before subsequently making its way to Lithuania. Today, it is in second ownership and belongs to an overseas owner, with the vehicle currently being driven in Switzerland on Lithuanian registration plates. A Certificate of Conformity (COC) is already available for a future Swiss registration, considerably simplifying the registration process.

Behind the wheel, the Defender impressively demonstrates why this model continues to enjoy cult status. The elevated driving position, excellent visibility, and precise six-speed manual transmission provide an authentic driving experience that modern off-road vehicles can rarely replicate. At the same time, the TDCi engine offers considerably more relaxed long-distance capability than earlier generations of the Defender. Whether on forest tracks or unpaved trails, the Defender feels perfectly at home wherever other vehicles would have long since reached their limits.

The Defender has long since evolved from a purely utilitarian vehicle into a highly desirable collector's and leisure classic. Particularly well-preserved examples with low mileage, documented histories, and high-quality restorations are enjoying steadily increasing demand. The combination of traditional construction and modern TDCi technology makes the models from the final generation of the classic Defender particularly sought-after representatives of the series.

Important Notice for Prospective Buyers in Switzerland: The vehicle is currently being driven in Switzerland with Latvian registration plates and has therefore not yet been officially imported and customs-cleared in Switzerland. The costs of customs clearance and Swiss registration are not included in the auction price and will be borne by the future buyer.A Certificate of Conformity (COC) is already available, which significantly facilitates the registration process in Switzerland.
