1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III (Commemorative Edition)
The 1974 Jaguar E-Type Commemorative Edition is one of the most special and sought-after variants of the legendary British sports car. As production of the E-Type drew to a close in 1974, Jaguar decided to mark the occasion with a limited run of Commemorative Edition models — just 50 examples — making them highly collectible today. These final E-Types were based on the Series III V12 roadster and reflected Jaguar's commitment to celebrating the car's storied 13-year production run. They were finished in a distinctive black paint with cinnamon leather interior, and most carried a special brass plaque on the dashboard bearing the signature of Sir William Lyons, Jaguar's founder, to signify their place in the marque's history. Under the bonnet is the smooth 5.3 litre V12 engine, giving the Commemorative Edition both refined performance and grand touring capability. Buyers could choose between automatic and manual gearboxes, though only a small number were manuals, adding to the desirability of those examples. Each car was right-hand drive and maintained the E-Type's elegant styling and mechanical sophistication right up to the end of production. Today these 1974 Commemorative Editions are prized by collectors and enthusiasts alike. They are rare survivors of Jaguar's most iconic model, often fetching high prices due to their limited numbers and historic significance.
Originally registered on 8th November 1974 this E-Type has been much loved and has even changed hands within the same family three times. Presenting well in black with cinnamon interior, this Jaguar has been part of a private collection in recent years. We are advised this Commemorative Edition Jaguar drives well, with no known faults, and it will be presented for an MoT prior to auction. Thought to have been the 29th from last E-Type ever built, this is a great piece of motoring history. Some invoices are present in the history file and the MoT history would indicate the mileage of 39,207 to be correct, although this is not warranted. Supplied with a V5 registration document this rare E-Type demonstrates how the 1974 Commemorative Edition still resonates as a pinnacle of British automotive design. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
