  • The car has an amazing early history which started immediately after delivery when was owned by Mr. Ian Mc Pherson-Stewart, a British racing driver from Scotland

Donald Healey Motor company completed its first car in 1945, going into full-time production the following year.

Donald Mitchell Healey was a notable English car designer, rally driver and speed record holder.

Introduced by Donald Healey Motors in 1949, the Healey Silverstone gained attention from both motor enthusiasts and racing drivers alike with its ability to be used on the road and for competition.

Powered by a 2.4-litre Riley Engine and mostly assembled by hand, the Silverstone was designed as a lightweight attractive two-seater with innovative and practical design elements.

The lightweight two-seater body was crafted in aluminium, and the car’s purposeful look was enhanced by cycle wings and closely spaced headlamps mounted behind the radiator grille.

Another unusual feature was the spare wheel protruding from its compartment in the tail, thus doubling as a bumper!

The Healey Silverstone proved itself to be a success on rallies, with Donald Healey himself achieving a class win at the 1949 Alpine Rally alongside co-driver Ian Appleyard.

With a Healey Silverstone, Franco Mostert e Carlo Castelbarco Pindemonte Rezzonico ranked 38th overall at the 1950 Mille Miglia.

The Silverstone had a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h) and a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) with an acceleration time of 11 seconds.

The Healey’s frames differed by a code letter: A, B, and C were used for Westlands, Elliot, and derived body styles.

The first Silverstone used a “D.

The air scoop on the hood could distinguish the later, introduced in April 1950, “E” type.

The “E” series, had several improvements over the D-Type to make it more effective in the field, like the air intakes on the bonnet for better engine cooling, a different type of windscreen and a more comfortable driving seat, suitable for the gentleman drivers of the period.

In all, 105 Silverstones were built between 1949 and 1951: 51 of the D-Type and 54 of the E-Type.

Its weight distribution, engine, transmission, driver and front passenger seat between the axles, gave an enormous ride balance and stability.

The robust chassis gave the car excellent stability. Its active suspension and controlled direct steering made its driving, handling and directional stability far better than most contemporary cars.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This delightful and rare Healey Silverstone has chassis number E100 and is a beautiful specimen of the 1950’s Healey Silverstone, one of the 54 cars of the “E” series.

The “E” series was a bit wider and had a more comfortable cockpit.

This example was first registered in 1950 with the UK registration HSG 393.

The first recorded owner was Mr. Ian Mc Pherson-Stewart.

He was a British racing driver from Scotland.

He competed with the Healey Silverstone in Scotland’s first ever motor race meeting at Winfield in late 1950, securing a third and a fourth place in his two races.

Mr. Ian Mc Pherson-Stewart was one of the original Ecurie Ecosse drivers, designing the team’s iconic badge and suggesting his blue racing colours.

Stewart made a name for himself racing a Jaguar XK120 in British national events, winning 23 races in just three seasons. He also competed in a World Championship Grand Prix at the 1953 RAC British Grand Prix.

One of his most notable successes was at Charterhall when he held off Stirling Moss all the way to the flag and he also raced a factory Jaguar C-type at Le Mans and in the Goodwood 9 Hours, sharing with Peter Whitehead.

In 1966 the Silverstone was purchased from Mr. A. Newman and the registration changed to JAC 100.

The Healey Silverstone was exported to Denmark in 1966 by the next owner, a Mr. Erik Dinesen.

Later, the new owner was Mrs. Charlotte Dinesen, in Denmark.

She owned the car till March 2011.

In 2008 the Healey Silverstone has been fully restored on a extremely high level in Denmark. Without looking at the expenses this car was fully restored. We have bought several cars over the years from this restoration company because their quality is extremely high.
Time is not an issue, only the best possible quality counts.

In April 2011 the car was sold to Germany, where it passed into the hands of two even more meticulous owners.

A Mr. J. Andersen who participated in the 2010 Mille Miglia with starting number 124 and later to Dr. Dreve, from Unna, Germany.

A very good friend and customer of us.

This gentleman drove several events with the Silverstone including the 2011 Hamburg – Berlin and the 2012 Mille Miglia with starting number 182.

Since the restoration the car has been used but on a very careful way.

It even drove two times Mille Miglia but one cannot see any signs of use.

The car is fitted with a Tripmaster being a period correct metal Halda Twinmaster of a value of around € 2,500,-. These devices are no longer in production and very rare to find.

We bought the car back from this very good friend in Germany in 2015 when he sold a large part of his collection to us.

In November 2015 the Healey Silverstone found via us a new owner in the Netherlands, from the Dutch province of Limburg.

Due to a reduction of cars in the collection of this gentlemen the Silverstone came up for sale.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The body of the Healey Silverstone is absolutely amazing, it has a wonderful shape and lining, here and there it is possible to find a minor scratch or stone chip but this belongs to a car with a serious history.

The chrome grille at the front has lost it’s shine over the years on the main pillar but this is a nice patina which belongs to the car.

The rest of the chrome is all in a nice order.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The beautiful interior features beautifully matching Green leather seats.

The interior of the Healey is very nice. The entire interior has been wonderful restored with period correct materials.

The dashboard and instruments are clear and fresh and all in working condition.

Amongst the original instruments, the car is fitted with instruments for participation in regularity rallies, (Halda Twinmaster Odometer).

The chrome surroundings of the meters are all in a very nice order.

The interior is in close to excellent condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

An enjoyable car.

We personally know very well how a Healey Silverstone is driving.

We have driven the 2015 the Mille Miglia with an Healey Silverstone and can confirm that the handling of a Silverstone is spectacular.

The car is very powerful and has an enormous torque.

This makes the car great to accelerate on a circuit or in mountain areas.

The brakes are very direct so the car gives a safe feeling when it’s seriously raced.

The car is ready to be subscribed in the world’s nicest classic car events such as The Zoute Grand Prix, The Gran Premio Nuvolari, The Mille Miglia and many many other nice classic car events.

Due to the low production number this will always be a unique car to see in any of the events.

Thanks to its qualities, Its rarity, but also its sporty and powerful appearance, the Healey Silverstone is  a very good choice for a subscription in the Mille Miglia.

We certainly hope to see this car in the Mille Miglia 2024 at the start.
