1973 | Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas

Launched in September 1972, it coincided with the availability of the Jaguar 5,343cc, V12 engine on both Jaguar and Daimler saloons. Built in Coventry, the part-built car was taken to Vanden Plas, Kingsbury for final painting in one of a range of special colours, the fitting of a black vinyl roof and exclusive trimming which identified the model from its standard Daimler cousins. The disc brakes were ventilated at the front and complemented by independent suspension all round. Inside, air-conditioning, a radio/stereo tape player with electric aerial and speakers were all standard. In total, only 342 Series I's were made before the model was replaced in 1973.

Acquired by the vendor in 2014 with five previous owners recorded, this incredibly striking Daimler presents in Opalescent Aubergine with a contrasting tan interior. When acquired by the current owner, it was in ostensibly good order but with some underlying defects which, fortunately, were rectified although there are, once again, some superficial age-related issues but the car runs well. The history folder is extensive with many old MoT test certificates and invoices. It should be noted that this Series I is a rare model today, with some sources suggesting that there are no more currently left on the road at all, although it's likely that there are still a handful held by collectors. It will be presented for sale with a new MoT test certificate and the decision has been made to include the original registration mark in the sale, given its rarity and on-going connection with the car.
