From 1934, Citroën built the Traction Avant with the sensational front-wheel drive, which was advertised with the slogan ‘From now on, the horses pull in front!’. Other innovations such as the self-supporting body without a frame chassis, which enabled the low overall height of the vehicles, characterised modern automobile construction for the next 23 years. Although it was not easy without a load-bearing chassis, there were also special bodies such as roadsters.
Our Citroën Traction Avant 11 BL Roadster comes from a small series that was assembled in Slough (Great Britain) as a right-hand drive and 12-volt electric vehicle. The headlights are mounted in the wings. A special feature at the time. Our roadster also has crank windows in the doors. Over the years, it fell into disrepair in the London area. In 1972, it was a lucky coincidence that the rare classic car was discovered by the German automobile historian and publicist Halwart Schrader. This was followed by an extensive restoration and conversion to left-hand drive. The classic is currently owned by a well-known classic car connoisseur and is registered in northern Germany. We are proud to have this extremely rare example in our range.
