An entire generation’s Concorde moment?

Ever wondered what would happen if you let the greatest Formula 1 designer of a generation realise his vision for the ultimate road-going supercar? So did Aston Martin. Just over a decade ago, Aston teamed up with Formula 1’s Red Bull Racing – well, more specifically, its all-conquering design wunderkind Adrian Newey – to create this: the mind-bending Valkyrie.

This land-based spaceship’s journey from the sketchpad to the showrooms was fraught with challenges as Newey’s uncompromising vision was continually met head-on by the stark realities of budget and homologation. But the overriding ambition that studded the Valkyrie’s development throughout mercifully prevailed. Suffice to say, it’s unlike any other road car that came before it. The most ambitious road-going automotive project ever? We wouldn’t bet against it.

There’s a definitive 336-page book about the Aston Martin Valkyrie, though we’re not blessed with such a liberal word count, so the salient points are these. Its sculptural aerodynamic form was dictated by the air and, from a packaging perspective, is the work of pure Newey genius. It’s insectile and voluminous, pruned and pinched in all the right places, with acutely sharp and intricate details that force your eyes to trace.

The tiny cabin is luxury Le Mans prototype – cosy, yet again, extremely well packaged given the dimensions Aston had to work with. Then there’s the engine… And goodness gracious, what an engine – a bespoke naturally aspirated Cosworth V12 that displaces six-and-a-half litres, weighs just 206 kilograms, revs to a dizzying 11,100rpm and kicks out 1,000bhp. Throw in the Rimac-developed hybrid system and you’ve got 1,150bhp to play with.

Chassis number 063

The first and only owner of the left-hand-drive Aston Martin Valkyrie we’re thrilled to be offering, number 063 of the 150 coupés built, selected over £200,000 of optional extras with the factory’s ‘Q’ Ultimate Personalisation programme.

Rather than plump for a singular exterior shade, he opted for the graduated paint scheme ranging from Titanium Silver at the front to Skyfall Silver at the rear. It’s a subtle change from a grey silver through a blue one – one that, at first glance, you might not clock. The tasteful hues are then boldly contrasted by a plethora of Gulf Orange accents including the graphics back, the ‘lipstick’ around the pointed nose and the upper suspension shrouds. Exposed gloss carbon-fibre twill in multiple areas including the roof and the engine cover underline what is, in our opinion, a brilliant configuration.

It’s a similar story inside the small yet beautifully packaged Le Mans Prototype-like cabin. Black and grey Alcantara is contrasted by orange embroidery, stitching, harnesses and door pulls. Unlike the exterior, the exposed carbon-fibre visible inside the car – including the entire lower section of the monocoque – is satin rather than glossy. It screams motorsport. Which is apt when your reclined driving position is akin to that of a Formula 1 driver. We particularly like the anodised orange toggles on the steering wheel.

Satisfyingly, the entire car is covered with paint-protection film – not that chassis number 063 has had too much cause for it. This Valkyrie has covered just 415 miles since it was delivered in June of 2022 and it is presented, as you can imagine, is virtually as-new condition. It’s been serviced by Aston Martin thrice, most recently in April of this year, during which a battery diagnostic health check was undertaken. Its current active extended service plan is valid until 2027.
