In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Alfa Romeo built some of the most engaging driver’s cars of their time. The Giulia GT series, designed by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, combined elegant Italian design with lightweight construction and a lively twin cam engine. The result was a coupe that looked sharp, felt agile and rewarded drivers who enjoyed being part of the machine rather than simply steering it.
The GT 1600 Junior quickly became one of the most beloved versions of the 105 series. It kept everything enthusiasts loved about the earlier Giulia coupes: a free revving four cylinder engine, a precise five speed gearbox and a chassis that encourages you to drive properly. Light, communicative and mechanical in the best possible way, the Junior represents the era when Alfa Romeos were built around driving pleasure first and everything else second. No driving modes, no filters, just a steering wheel, a gearbox and a road ahead.
About this car: This 1973 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior was originally delivered in the Netherlands and has been carefully restored by previous owners around 10 to 15 years ago. Since then it has been well maintained and always stored indoors. The result is a very clean and well kept example that still feels honest and ready to be driven.
Finished in gunmetal colour with a black interior, the car presents beautifully. The paintwork is in very neat condition and the interior has been refreshed where needed while keeping its original character. The seats have been improved by a specialist sewing atelier and the dashboard wood has been renewed using correct materials.
The previous owner also focused on improving the driving experience with carefully chosen upgrades. A Momo MOD.07 steering wheel in black suede, mounted on a vintage race hub with a custom Alfa Romeo horn button, gives the cockpit a purposeful feel. The gear lever has been replaced with a solid aluminium Alfaholics shifter, widely considered one of the best upgrades available for classic Alfa Romeos. Importantly, the original steering wheel and gear lever are still present with the car.
Mechanically the car remains true to its roots with the original 1600 twin cam engine. The car benefits from several well chosen mechanical upgrades including improved brakes and upgraded suspension with modified dampers and lowering springs. Maintenance is currently handled by Sportscars Holland in Nijkerk, ensuring the car remains in excellent driving condition.
The result is exactly what a classic Alfa should be: a light, engaging Italian coupe with a few carefully selected upgrades that enhance the driving experience without taking away the character.
A true analogue driver’s car, just as Alfa Romeo intended.
