Unveiled in 1940, the Gilera Saturno proved to be one of the finest motorcycles of its time. It was equipped with an excellent overhead-valve 500 cm3 single-cylinder engine, and featured a special oscillating parallelogram rear suspension. It gave rise to competition derivatives that excelled on the racetrack, in the hands of amateurs and professionals alike, and could stand up to English machines such as the Norton Manx. For the record, it was a favorite of the colorful French racer "Jojo" Houel. The Saturno gained such a reputation that the manufacturer took over the name in the late '80s for a sporty single-cylinder.
This Gilera Saturno entered the collection in 1980, with Verona registration number VR 120783. Accompanied by its Italian "Libretto" and meticulously restored at the time, our collector was particularly attached to it. With its tan-sad and full lighting, it exudes a pleasant perfume of authenticity.
