Description

The Morgan Motor Company was founded in 1910 with the specific aim of building three-wheeled “cycle cars”. With a front-mounted engine powering the single rear wheel, they quickly became known for manufacturing well-designed and well-built vehicles, proving very capable in the racing world.

Whilst early Morgan three-wheelers were typically powered by an air-cooled V-twin motorcycle engine, the F series - introduced in 1933 at the Olympia Motor Cycle Show - was a comprehensively improved three-wheeler with a brand new pressed steel chassis, a revised body and a more powerful in line 4-cylinder, water-cooled side valve engine from the Ford Model Y. The F Sports (or Super) - as here – followed for the 1936 season, with a 2-seater body and optional larger 1172 cc (10hp) engine, giving more sprightly performance.

Whilst we know very little of this Morgans’ early history, we do know that following its initial registration in December 1935, it featured as the roadtest model used in Motor Cycling magazine in January 1936. Described as “A Fast and Comfortable Sports Three-wheeler”, the vehicle achieved a top speed of 74mph on test.

The last owner acquired this vehicle in 1997 since which time, it has been used regularly and enthusiast maintained in very good order (holding an annual MOT certificate up to 2012).

The Ford side-valve motor drives through a 3-speed gearbox, which also has a reverse gear. Additional practicality comes in the form of front brakes which have been converted to hydraulic operation for better performance in modern traffic. Having been very well cared for, the Morgan starts, runs and drives exactly as it should – with the additional benefit of the improved braking system.

The 2-seater Sports body has been well maintained in a patinated condition rather than completely restored, but still looks smart in its two-tone maroon and cream paint finish. All chromework is in good condition. Supplied with a folding roof for wet weather driving and tonneau cover.

The snug interior of the Morgan (such as there is!) is in good condition with the two seats clearly having been recovered in recent times. The dashboard is complete with a full complement of working instruments.

An interesting, fun machine which offers a rare opportunity to sample pre-War driving and vintage Morgan 3-wheeler ownership in one hit. This F Sports was featured in a 6-page article in the September 2004 edition of the Classic Motorcycle magazine.

The Morgan is supplied with a large selection of spare parts.

Currently UK registered, we can assist with shipping and export processes if desired. We can ship worldwide.
