Description

The R107 and C107 were built to exacting engineering standards, unsurprisingly, and with a more than subtle air of sophistication. What marks these streamlined sports cars out from the rest is the comfortable rear seats, sublime power delivery from the larger engined models and of course, the legendary Stuttgart build-quality. These imposing pillarless coupés have now become rare and prices are rising.

The example we have here has had in excess of £40,000 spent on restoration since 2019, so is understandably, presented in stunning order. The car was purchased a recent previous owners uncle as a nearly new car from its original owner with about 4,000 miles on the clock, he believes this would have been in a 1981 or 1982. The car was truly part of their family for the next 40 years and after seeing it sit in the garage deteriorating for a number of years, he decided it was time to restore the car properly as he couldn’t bear to see it go to the scrapyard. Many brand new Mercedes-Benz panels were used in the work as he didn’t want any repairs or filler used, it had to be done properly. It is finished in Silver Blue with dark blue interior, both in excellent condition. The paint has an excellent shine, new bumpers were fitted so the chrome is bright and without pitting. Mechanically, the car was checked over and anything necessary was replaced. The new parts fitted were fuel injectors, power steering pump, exhaust, alternator, brakes and suspension. The front seats have been retrimmed in leather and the whole underside has been fully rust treated to keep the car in excellent shape.

The car is said to be a joy to drive, with the V8 engine offering more than enough torque for wafting around effortlessly. Recently serviced and supplied to auction with a V5C registration document invoices totalling more than £40,000 supporting the works undertaken by Thames Valley Repairs Ltd, who are specialist classic car restorers based in Maidenhead. Due to its historic status, this Mercedes-Benz is ULEZ free. Consigned by Fraser Smith
