Description

The 1957 Citroën H Van is one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles of post-war Europe, celebrated for its rugged design and ingenious engineering. Introduced in 1947 and refined through the 1950s, the H Van was designed as a versatile front-wheel-drive commercial vehicle at a time when most vans were rear-wheel driven. Its corrugated steel body, inspired by aircraft construction, was not merely a styling quirk but a cost-effective solution that added strength while keeping weight low. Powered typically by a modest four-cylinder petrol engine derived from Citroën passenger cars, the 1957 model emphasised reliability and ease of maintenance over speed. The low, flat load floor, made possible by front-wheel drive, allowed for easy loading and made the van popular with bakers, tradespeople, postal services, and emergency responders. Sliding side doors and a tall cargo area further enhanced its practicality. Today, the 1957 Citroën H Van is a cult classic, often restored as food trucks, campers, or promotional vehicles. Its unmistakable silhouette and utilitarian charm symbolise French innovation, creativity, and everyday resilience in the post-war era.

This left hand drive, 1957 Citroën H Van was imported to the UK in 2013 and at the end of that year it was sold to someone who restored it. They changed the colour from white and modifying it as a mobile coffee outlet which was use until it was sold 5 ½ years later in 2019. It was then used briefly before being placed in storage in 2020. The current keepers have fitted a new battery, and we are told that it does run but it will need some recommissioning before being returned to the road. Now finished in a multicolour scheme, this Citroën H Van is supplied with a V5 registration document and is ready to be converted for a commercial life or transformed into a camper or promotional vehicle.
