HISTORY / DOCUMENTATION
This top-of-the-range version of the Peugeot 205 is increasingly becoming an icon, partly thanks to its rally heritage. This particular example is equipped with the larger 1.9-liter engine and was originally delivered in the Netherlands on January 24, 1991. The original registration certificate is still present.
Since 2021, the most recent owner has extensively restored the car, including a complete engine overhaul and a full respray. A comprehensive photo report of over 200 pictures documents the restoration process. Since completion, the car has driven only 1,869 kilometers and is in excellent condition—almost as it left the factory.
The car comes with Dutch-language booklets and two keys. The green-on-green color combination is both striking and extremely rare. A unique opportunity to acquire a rising icon.

EXTERIOR
Visually, this car has been extensively restored with a strong focus on originality. The vehicle was largely disassembled and repainted in the beautiful and original metallic dark green “Verde Sorrento.” This was a special color offered only in the final production years, with limited original examples produced.
Rubber seals and plastic body components have been renewed or restored where necessary. Notably, the car still retains all of its original windows. At the front, it features characteristic (typically French) yellow fog lights.
The GTi can be recognized by its black plastic wheel arch extensions, sporty bumpers, and lowered suspension compared to the standard 205.

INTERIOR
The interior has also been restored, while retaining the original seats and rear bench, which remain in very neat condition. They are upholstered in half-leather/half-velour trim with green detailing.
Interior features include:
Split-folding rear seat
Rear window wiper and washer
Internally adjustable exterior mirrors
Central locking
Front electric windows
Tinted glass
A Kenwood radio with USB connectivity has been installed. The interior and luggage compartment are in excellent condition.

TECHNICAL
During the engine overhaul, the engine was removed from the car—photos of this process are available. Technically, the car has been thoroughly restored, with many components renewed to bring it back to top condition. The car drives, shifts, and brakes very well.
Under the hood, the components gleam—it is truly a work of art. The 15-inch alloy wheels are in very good condition without damage and are fitted with brand-new Toyo tires. The underside of the car is in very good, rust-free condition, as shown in the photo report.
The Peugeot 205 GTI was only available as a three-door model and initially featured a 1,580 cc fuel-injected engine producing 105 hp. In 1985, the suspension was tuned for more comfort, and in 1986 output increased to 115 hp. That same year, the 205 GTI 1.9 was introduced with a 1,905 cc engine producing 130 hp (later 122 hp with catalytic converter). This version featured a modified engine with a longer stroke, rear disc brakes, and 15-inch wheels.

GENERAL
The Peugeot 205 GTI is one of the most iconic hot hatches of the 1980s and 1990s. Introduced in 1984 as the sporty variant of the popular Peugeot 205, it quickly became a legend among car enthusiasts. With its light weight, compact dimensions, and sharp handling, the 205 GTI became known for its pure driving experience.
For many, the Peugeot 205 was the ultimate hatchback of the 1980s and one of the most perfectly practical small car designs ever created. Launched in 1983, its “wheels-on-each-corner” design and curb weight of just 750 kg made it a formidable competitor to the Renault 5 and the Ford Fiesta. It was named “Car of the Year” in 1983 by What Car? and “Car of the Decade” in 1990 by CAR Magazine.
Initially offered with a 1.6-liter engine producing approximately 105 to 115 hp depending on version and year, the more powerful 1.9-liter version followed later with around 120 hp. Thanks to its low weight of approximately 900 kg, these engines delivered impressive performance and a direct, playful driving experience. The car was renowned for its sharp steering and slightly oversteering character, making it especially popular among spirited drivers.
Visually, the 205 GTI stood out through subtle yet sporty details, such as widened wheel arches with black plastic extensions, red accents in the trim, special alloy wheels, and the distinctive GTI badge. The interior also reflected its sporting nature, featuring sports seats and a three-spoke steering wheel.
Production of the Peugeot 205 GTI ended in the early 1990s, and since then it has achieved cult status. Today, it is a highly sought-after classic thanks to its timeless design, mechanical simplicity, and pure driving pleasure. For many enthusiasts, the 205 GTI remains one of the greatest hot hatches ever built.
