Descripción

OKJ 167F was delivered on the 14th September 1967 and supplied new by H R Owen. The Aston Martin DB6 Volante was launched at the London Motor Show in 1965 and offered customers a genuine four seater convertible with adequate boot space for long distance touring. With only 140 of these cars ever made, they are indeed an incredibly rare, and sought after motor car. This particular example has been with one owner for 34 years and whilst now finished in Dark Blue with manual transmission and Vantage specification, it left the factory in Silver Birch with automatic transmission, power aerial and power assisted steering. This Aston Martin Volante comes with a wealth of history and documents a major 1990 restoration. Photographs show the car taken back to the bare shell, down to bare metal ahead of fabrication work and a complete re-paint in the cars current colour. The engine was taken to Aston Martin specialists in London SW8 for a complete engine rebuild to include crankshaft re-grind, new main and big end bearings. The Aston Martin was then built up, re-trimmed and in 1992 sold to its most recent owner for £71,520.

On initial purchase, the car was taken to long established Hertfordshire Aston Martin specialist Ken Shergold. The engine was once again rebuilt, this time with new cylinder liners, new pistons and all new timing chains. Main and big end bearings were replaced again, the crankshaft built to standard and an exchange oil pump fitted. At the same time, the Aston was fitted with new front wheel bearings, re-conditioned steering rack, top and bottom ball joints, new stainless steel brake pistons, rebuilt calipers, servo and brake pads. The exhaust was replaced and the rear axle rebuilt with new seals, bearings, gasket, re-splined hubs and a new limited slip differential clutch. In 1995 the same specialist replaced wheels and tyres in 1995 and since then the car has had steady maintenance with the most significant being in 2012 when Sigma Engineering in Dorset re-commissioned the braking system. Since purchasing the DB6 Volante in 1992, little over 2000 miles have been covered, and it was last MOT tested in 2020.

Simply due to lack of use, OKJ 167F will require a level of servicing, but it is running and driving well. The engine is strong holding very good oil pressure, the five speed ZF gearbox lovely through the gears and on the whole, the car is in good mechanical condition. This is essentially now an older restoration so whilst the car presents well with a deep paint finish, it does show signs of age with minor blemishes commensurate with the time since the bodywork was carried out. The underside is structurally excellent, the car generally has a very honest, aged feel and has covered very little mileage since its rebuild over 30 years ago. This rare Volante has great potential, it would make an excellent value, usable car, and of course forms a great base for improvement and taking to the next level.
