• Stored in a barn for over 30 years
• An ideal project for a DIY mechanic

The Volkswagen Beetle 1303S represents one of the most refined evolutions of the classic Beetle design. Often referred to as the “Super Beetle,” the 1303S introduced several notable improvements over earlier models while retaining the unmistakable rounded shape that made the Beetle an icon worldwide. One of its most significant updates was the curved panoramic windshield, which not only modernized its appearance but also improved forward visibility and interior space. Under the rear engine lid, the 1303S typically featured a 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four engine, delivering around 50 horsepower. While not built for speed, the car offered reliable and simple performance, making it ideal for everyday driving. The upgraded MacPherson strut front suspension distinguished the Super Beetle from standard models, providing a smoother ride and better handling characteristics. Inside, the 1303S saw enhancements in comfort and safety. A padded dashboard, improved instrumentation, and better seat design reflected changing expectations of drivers in the early 1970s. The increased luggage space in the front trunk was another practical advantage, addressing one of the limitations of earlier Beetles.Despite its mechanical simplicity, the 1303S earned a reputation for durability and ease of maintenance. Its air-cooled engine required no radiator, reducing potential points of failure and making it particularly popular among enthusiasts who appreciated straightforward engineering.

Originally registered on 20th November 1972, this Volkswagen has been stored in a dry barn for over 30 years. It was last taxed in August 1993. The colour was changed from white to red in 1991. The bodywork appears to be ok, taking into account how long this car has been in hibernation for. Supplied with a V5 document, this 1303S is both MoT and road tax exempt. These are uncomplicated cars and can be worked on by a reasonably competent DIY mechanic, parts are available via the various Owners Clubs. This example looks to be a great project that won't take up too much garage space. Today, the Volkswagen Beetle 1303S is cherished as a classic car, admired for its charm, engineering ingenuity, and cultural significance during an era when automotive design was rapidly evolving.
