Peugeot 404 Coupe SL Injection – A Rare French Classic

Price: €34,995             Year: 1968                              Kilometers: 29,827 (indicated)

The Peugeot 404 Coupe is widely regarded as one of the most elegant French coupes ever built, and this example in light blue metallic is a true standout. Originally discovered in Sweden with a retired Peugeot mechanic, it later found its way to the Netherlands, where it underwent a comprehensive restoration. The car received a complete repaint, brand-new upholstery, replaced chrome trim, and refreshed interior details. The engine and cylinder head have been fully overhauled, ensuring it runs as beautifully as it looks.

In 2018, the previous owner acquired this 404 via a German classic car auction and has since maintained it with the utmost care. The 404 Coupe is particularly rare, as many were converted into cabriolets. While it shares its body with the convertible, finding a coupe in excellent, original condition is extremely uncommon.

Thanks to its fuel-injected engine and well maintained mechanical condition, this car drives wonderfully. Even by today’s standards, the engine runs smoothly, and the gearbox shifts effortlessly. Driving this coupe is a true pleasure—it’s the kind of car that must be experienced to be fully appreciated.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This 404 SL is now finished in the charming hue of Ice Blue Metallic, over a black leather-trimmed interior, featuring a body-coloured central dashboard section, and chrome trim highlights.
  • It rides on a set of 15-inch painted-steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, fitted with Michelin XZX whitewall tyres, with removable whitewalls.
  • Equipment includes a two-spoke steering wheel, a wooden gear knob, push-out front quarter light windows, Jaeger gauges, an analogue clock, heater and ventilation controls, a BMW Bavaria-branded cassette stereo, and a fold-down rear armrest.
  • The handbrake has been modified from its original position and is now mounted differently from the factory design.
  • This example has been fitted with aftermarket rear parcel shelf speakers.
  • Accompanying the car are original Peugeot 404 owner’s handbooks, a copy of the original Swedish registration document, a jack, a spare wheel, and the current German historical registration (issued March 2019).
  • Two sets of keys are included.

CONDITION

  • The car was previously finished in red, but was resprayed prior to its importation into Germany in 2019. The interior shows light age-related patina, and there is a 2–3 cm split on the passenger side of the dashboard.
  • The most recent German roadworthiness inspection was passed in August 2025, valid through to August 2027, with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This 404 SL’s most recent maintenance was carried out in December 2022 at an indicated 29,220 km, carried out by Fischer KFZ-Technik in Germany, including valve adjustments and a detailed inspection.
  • Previous servicing was also carried out by Fischer KFZ-Technik in March 2020 and August 2020, with invoices supplied.
